Congratulations to partner Will Stute on being named one of the Daily Journal’s leading commercial litigators of 2023. The publication cited Will for leading an Orrick litigation team that secured a defense verdict in November for the NCAA in the first concussion-related case to go to trial in the nation.
In this feature, Will recounted his background and how he became interested in the law, nurtured by an interest in philosophy. He also discussed the landmark win for the NCAA and the precedent it set for other concussion cases unfolding around the country, including a trial he is now beginning in Indiana.
“Diplomacy and a vigorous defense were key,” Will told the publication. “The NCAA is sympathetic when young men pass away early, it’s tragic. But we believe strongly in our defenses.”
Will and partners Bill Molinski and David Fuad were also recognized as American Lawyer Litigators of the Week for the NCAA win.
