Orrick Advises BlackRock Real Assets on its Participation in ScotWind Leasing Process

July.26.2021

We advised BlackRock’s Global Renewable Power platform on its membership of the NextGen consortium together with Quaybridge Scotland Ltd, Parkwind NV, Maple Power Ltd and Sumitomo Corporation. The NextGen consortium has submitted bids to Crown Estate Scotland (“CES”) under the ScotWind leasing process, which will grant property rights for the seabed in Scottish waters for the development of the next generation of commercial scale offshore wind projects. CES aims to enable as much as 10 GW of new generating capacity from offshore wind farms off the coast of Scotland over the next decade.

The Orrick team advising BlackRock was led by Ravinder Sandhu and Simon Folley, closely supported by Nicholas Connell and David O’Donovan.

Ravinder commented, “We are delighted to be advising BlackRock’s Global Renewable Power platform on its membership of the NextGen consortium, which will hopefully lead to an important addition to its portfolio of nearly 300 wind and solar projects globally. This transaction demonstrates Orrick’s market-leading expertise in advising clients on the early stage development of offshore wind farms in the UK, including the intricacies of the leasing round process. We wish all members of the NextGen consortium the best of luck with the ScotWind leasing process.”
