Asian-mena Counsel magazine has released its “Deals of the Year 2019” report recognizing some of the most impressive, innovative, complex and unique transactions and matters in 2019 across Asia.

In 2019, Orrick’s cross-office team achieved a complete victory for Shanghai Sansi Electronic Engineering Co., CreateLED Electronics Co., Yaham Optoelectronics Co. and other Chinese respondents against Ultravision Technologies in a US International Trade Commission (ITC) Section 337 investigation involving alleged infringement of patents relating to certain modular LED display panels and components. The complainant was forced to withdraw the complaint unconditionally during the expert discovery period, which led to a final termination by the ITC.  The parallel district court cases against Sansi and CreateLED were also withdrawn at the same time or shortly thereafter.

It is an important win for Chinese LED manufacturers amidst the Sino-US trade tension. The victory in this case enables our clients to stay in the US market, marking a crucial milestone for their overseas expansions.

This matter, among 1000+ matters received by Asian-mena Counsel’s editorial team, was chosen as Winner of “Disputes Deal of the Year”.

Orrick’s China-US team was led by partners Yufeng (Ethan) Ma (Shanghai), Vann Pearce (Washington, D.C.), Jordan Coyle (Washington, D.C.), and Bas de Blank (Silicon Valley).
