A UK tax resident company is chargeable to corporation tax on all of its profits. A company must register online for corporation tax with HMRC within three months of starting any business activity and must give notice to HMRC of its first accounting period. Corporation tax is self-assessed, so it is up to the company to work out what corporation tax is payable. Corporation tax is due and must be paid annually no later than nine months and one day after the close of the relevant accounting period. A company carrying out any business activity needs to file a Company Tax Return even if it makes a loss or has no corporation tax to pay.
