Germany: Can I agree a probationary period with my employees? What does it help? What are the limitations to be considered?

During the probationary period (the law calls it the "waiting period"), employees can be dismissed without cause, even if the company has more than ten employees. Notice period during this time is at least two weeks. The maximum time period for which a probationary period can be agreed is (generally) limited to six months.
