Matthew Stott is an associate in the Energy and Infrastructure Group. Matthew advises on a range of matters with a focus on international power projects (gas, wind, biomass, energy from waste, solar PV and hydroelectric), energy regulation, M&A and energy commodities.

Matthew has experience working in-house in a major European investment bank as a seconded adviser to the derivatives trading group (based in London) and in a major international utility company as a seconded adviser to the energy optimisation and trading business (based in Paris).

    • Advised Energetický a Průmyslový Holding in relation to the acquisition and conversion of the 420MW Lynemouth coal fired power station in Northumberland, UK, including implementation of its Investment Contract and grid interfaces.

    • Advised the Bioenergy Infrastructure Group on its investment in a £200m, 25MW Refuse Derived Fuel gasification facility and pre-treatment plant in Hull, East Yorkshire.

    • Advised a sponsor in relation to the financing and development of a Refuse Derived Fuel gasification facility in Burton upon Trent, UK.

    • Advised BlackRock Investment Management (UK) Limited (Renewable Power Group) in the €40 million acquisition and €310 million debt financing of Tellenes Vindpark AS. The Tellenes project, once fully operational, will be the largest wind farm in Norway, with an expected annual production of more than 500 GWh.

    • Advised a consortium of lenders in relation to the financing and development of an onshore wind farm in Mongolia.

    • Advised EnergieKontor on its acquisitions of Lilbourne Wind Farm and New Rides Wind Farm, both situated in the UK.

    • Advised NextEnergy Solar Holdings Ltd on its acquisition of numerous UK-based solar projects.

    • Advised Canadian Solar on its acquisition of numerous UK-based solar projects.

    • Advised Bluefield Solar Income Fund on its acquisition of numerous UK-based solar projects.

    • Advised MEAG MUNICH ERGO Asset Management GmbH on its acquisition of a large solar project owned by BayWa GmbH.  

    • Advised Gottex in relation to its investment in and management of various European renewable energy projects.

    • Advised RoundShield on its proposed equity investment in an anaerobic digestion facility in England.  

    • Advised the Shah Deniz consortium on the financing and development of the Shah Deniz Phase 2 project in Azerbaijan and pipeline systems to Italy.

    • Advised MOL Group on its acquisition of six non-operated North Sea offshore licences from Premier Oil.

    • Advised the following entities in relation to their UK and continental energy and commodity trading activities: BNP Paribas, BTG Pactual, Cargill, ENGIE, Gazprom and RWE.  

    • Advised numerous entities on energy regulation and financial regulation in the UK and Europe.

    • Advised a major European investment bank (as a seconded adviser based in London) on equity and commodity derivatives trading platforms and associated trades.

    • Advised a major international utility company (as a seconded adviser based in Paris) on commodity derivatives trading and energy optimisation practices.
