Last week, Orrick’s London office had the honor of collaborating with the Spear team at Resurgo to create a social mobility program designed to help a group of disadvantaged 18-24-year-olds prepare for employment and satisfying careers.
Our London office hosted a group of young people for the week. We provided training, including legal rights awareness, soft skills workshops, mentoring sessions, and work shadowing. Through a partnership led by Douglas Lahnborg and Anne O'Neill, our London team has worked with Resurgo for many years hosting young people for afternoon visits and participating in CV workshops. However, this social mobility program was our biggest collaboration to date: 52 of our lawyers and staff participated as, mentors, trainers and work shadow hosts.
The feedback is encouraging. At the end of the week, our guests reported that felt more comfortable in a corporate environment, built up useful skills, and learned important information. In addition, they all left the program either having found an ongoing mentor at the firm or felt more confident about finding a mentor in a sector of their choice. Likewise, our lawyers and staff found the experience to be inspiring.
