Orrick's Jeremy Kudon Named Law360 Sports MVP

Congratulations to Orrick public policy partner Jeremy Kudon on his selection to Law360's list of Sports MVPs for his work on behalf of DraftKings and FanDuel to legalize and regulate the daily fantasy sports (DFS) industry. Jeremy is one of only five lawyers selected for this recognition.

In its profile article of Jeremy, Law360 noted his work as the "key architect of a state-by-state legislative strategy that just might have saved the DFS industry as it came under fire. Two of the most serious threats came in the form of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's enforcement actions alleging DraftKings and FanDuel were illegal gambling operations."

Jeremy told Law360 that they "would have been out of one of the biggest markets for both companies at a time period when we just could not afford to be out of another big market. It was a ‘bet the industry’ problem."

Ultimately, Jeremy was able to "convince New York lawmakers to craft and pass a DFS legalization bill — in a matter of months — neutralizing the attorney general's illegal gambling claims and allowing DFS to return to New York just in time for the critical NFL season."
