Vesting is a provision in some equity grants to service providers of a company which ties the ownership of the granted equity to the provision of services. Once the equity has vested, it is fully owned by the recipient (or fully-exercisable in the case of options). Vesting is normally tied to the length of the recipient's service or certain pre-determined milestones relating to the provision of services.
