  • What inspires you about working with tech companies?

I love working with women founders, other underrepresented entrepreneurs, and double bottom line companies. People who think differently, and set out to create impact, inspire me.

  • Tell us about a favorite book, work of art or piece of music?

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a brilliant portrait of two friends who happen to create a successful business. The depth of character development and the way the novel treats coming of age in the technology industry are beautiful.

  • What's the best advice you've ever received?

If you don't ask, you don't get.

I started my career as a technology companies lawyer, but soon joined the startup world and began a 20+ year journey as a business leader running go-to-market, product development and business operations for a series of companies including Yahoo!, Demandforce, Intuit, Logikcull and Zenoti. During that time I led teams through good times and bad, raised money, bought and sold companies. Recently I returned to the firm to lead our Greenhouse program, which provides free personalized business coaching for our seed stage clients.

    • What inspires you about working with tech companies?

Working with tech companies allows us to see into the future and make it happen. Start up teams are the right kind of crazy, and their passion and belief is exhilarating and infectious.

    • What inspired you to become an emerging companies and venture capital lawyer?

Growing up in Silicon Valley, startups were like the local sports teams, and leaders like the star players. I wanted to be a professional in the league.

    • Tell us about one of your mentors.

I was extremely lucky to know Bill "Coach" Campbell from an early age. He inspired me, pushed me, and helped me understand what giving back to the community really meant. Later in my career, I had the privilege of working under Bill at Intuit. Being able to see him work with teams left a mark.

    • Tell us about a favorite client or project.

I enjoy working with companies at all stages, but I have a real affinity for teams of fewer than 10 employees. This is where the culture is established.

    • Where do you find inspiration in life?

Nature, art and the great works of literature.

    • If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

      Be a painter.

      • What inspires you about working with tech companies?

Tech companies shape our future and I am inspired by working with founders who make the world a better place.

      • What inspired you to become an emerging companies and venture capital lawyer?

I’ve been part of the Silicon Valley ecosystem for a long time. I wanted to be a trusted advisor to founders and investors and provide practical and innovative advice to help them grow leading innovative companies.

      • Tell us about one of your mentors.

Craig Johnson, who was the founder of Venture Law Group, was a visionary in innovating around the practice of law and showing what it means to be a trusted advisor to clients. I joined Venture Law Group early in my career, and Craig’s vision continues to influence the way I practice and interact with clients and colleagues.

      • If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

I would spend more time helping San Francisco regain its prominence as the technology capital of the world and one of the world’s greatest cities to live in, work and visit.

      • Tell us something we'd be surprised to know about you.

I served as Mayor of the City of Cupertino and as a council member from 1993-1997, where I helped build important public partnerships, including with Apple Computer, the Mid-Peninsula Open Space Preserve, and San Jose and California Water Companies. I also love spending time with my partner, Pedro, and our two kids (Leo and Lucia), as well as mentoring my three older kids as they pursue their careers.

      • What technology are you most excited to see develop?

AI, legal technology and the nexus of the two.
