Orrick partner Ann Patterson, who has co-headed the firm’s Public Policy Practice for the past year, today became Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary to new California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
In her new role, Ann will advise the governor on key legal issues and oversee significant litigation by and against the state of California. Ann has served previously in public service in California, including on teams of then-Attorney General Kamala Harris and former state Attorney General Bill Locker.
Ann spent 14 years at Orrick, specializing in seeking state legislative solutions around the country on behalf of clients such as Zenefits, Major League Baseball and the NBA. Financial Times recognized her last year for her efforts across the country to craft legislation criminalizing sexual extortion.
