January.22.2019

Orrick today announced the addition of partner Matthew Gemello, M&A advisor to leading global technology companies. Matthew joins from Baker & McKenzie, where he was chair of the firm’s North America corporate and securities practice. He is based in Silicon Valley.

Matthew is the latest in a string of high-profile additions to Orrick’s global tech and innovation platform, including IP litigators Jared Bobrow and Clem Roberts, the cyber and privacy team of Doug Meal and Heather Egan Sussman, and tech capital markets advisor Bill Hughes.

A seasoned deal lawyer, Matthew guides technology companies and their financial sponsors through transformational domestic and cross-border transactions. His recent work includes significant acquisitions for Bayer, Konica Minolta, Maxim, Motorola Solutions and Trimble, among many others. Matthew was named one of the 10 most innovative corporate lawyers in California (Daily Journal) for his work on Agilent Technologies’ spin-off of its electronic management business.

“Orrick has a global, tech-focused platform of exceptional quality that can be a game-changing benefit to any business that is innovating,” said Matthew. “Technology buyers are among the most active market players, even in uncertain geopolitical times. As traditional industries make innovation a core strategic priority, legal advisors with deep domain expertise are what the market is demanding. The quality and depth of Orrick’s technology platform is market-leading, and I am excited to be part of it.”

“Matthew is a top-tier M&A advisor, and we’re thrilled to add him to our team as we continue to execute our strategy to build the world’s leading tech and innovation platform,” said Chairman Mitch Zuklie. “Along with his stellar legal skills and record, we are equally attracted to Matthew’s character, his proven commitment to innovation and his pro bono leadership.” Matthew served as chair of Baker & McKenzie’s North America pro bono practice.

Orrick ranked top 10 globally for M&A volume for Q318 (Bloomberg) and top 3 globally for venture capital volume (PitchBook). Law360 named Orrick Tech Practice of the Year for 2018. The firm acts for 10 of the Forbes 25 public tech companies and 2,250 emerging companies.
