Announcing "On the Chain" – A Blog to Help Readers Follow Blockchain Developments

November.08.2018

We're excited to launch On the Chain to help the market stay abreast of trends and issues shaping the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry globally. Readers will find insights into the application of the securities and commodities laws, the Bank Secrecy Act and OFAC statutes, IRS tax law enforcement, European Union law and guidance, different and novel methods of financing, data privacy, and other emerging issues in cryptocurrency and blockchain.

On the Chain

On the Chain already features posts that help answer questions such as:

  • What do the SEC's recent guidance, enforcement actions and comments mean for the blockchain industry?
  • How far are the regulators extending their view of possible liability for non-compliance in the crypto world – even beyond lawyers and smart contract developers?
  • How is the EU harmonizing its approach to regulation of virtual currency?
  • How does the IRS treat income from digital currency transactions, and what are the risks of non-reporting?

On the Chain is edited by a team of Orrick partners: Daniel Nathan, a former enforcement official with the SEC, CFTC and FINRA; Jacqui Hatfield, who co-heads our Blockchain/Cryptocurrency group with Dan and also leads our London Financial Services Regulatory practice; and Glynna Christian, co-head of Orrick's Autonomous and Connected Vehicles group and our Tech Transactions practice.
