Orrick's Eric Johnson to Run for Speaker of the Texas House

May.03.2018

Eric Johnson, a member of our Public Finance team in Texas, announced today that he is running for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. A Democrat, Eric represents House District 100, where he was born and raised, which includes parts of Dallas and Mesquite. Eric was first elected to the Texas House in 2010 and will be entering his sixth term next year. If elected, he would be the first person of color ever to serve as Speaker, and also the first person under the age of 45 to serve since 1973. An alum of Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Eric was recently featured in the Princeton Alumni Weekly for his work advocating for the removal of Confederate iconography from public spaces in and around the State Capitol.

Eric joined Orrick earlier this year with a team of 20 public finance lawyers in our Houston and Austin offices.
