Nordic West Releases Global Scenarios to Guide Nordic Businesses Into the Future

May.30.2018

Nordic West, a strategic coalition working to help Nordic businesses navigate political and economic issues in the West, today published four “Global Scenarios” for 2021 to 2026. The in-depth report was released in Helsinki, providing guidance to companies confronting “radical uncertainty” in the future. Orrick is a founding partner of Nordic West, which enlisted more than a dozen pan-Nordic companies to participate in the Global Scenarios project.

The report describes four scenarios: “Belt and Road,” which examines China’s influence; “War-War,” which explores how patriotism, populism and protectionism unify and divide within borders; “Cyberworld,” which imagines what tech can do globally by that time frame; and “Downshift,” focusing on the interplay of the new economy and changing values under lower growth but higher expectations.

Nordic West was established in August 2017 as a global solution for Nordic companies looking to grow in the U.S. and other Western markets. Orrick partner Charles Adams, head of the firm’s international arbitration practice and former U.S. ambassador to Finland, is one of the founders and leaders of Nordic West, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Along with Charles, London/Brussels partner Douglas Lahnborg, Milan/London partner Peter O’Driscoll and others on our team are collaborating on the Nordic West venture.
