The 2018 edition of the peer directory Chambers USA recognizes Orrick for leadership across 38 practice areas, with an emphasis on the three sectors on which we focus – technology, energy & infrastructure, and finance. Orrick lawyers also received 98 individual rankings in the 2018 guide.
Highlights
In tech, Chambers notes Orrick’s “esteemed venture capital practice with pronounced expertise handling issues for emerging companies in the technology space.” Our teams are ranked Band 2 for VC (California) and Startups & Emerging Companies (Nationwide), with clients touting that "Orrick's knowledge of Silicon Valley and all of the quirks of technology companies” makes us “incredibly valuable." In California, we’re also recognized for IT & Outsourcing Transactions and Corporate/M&A.
Our energy & infrastructure team once again earned Band 1 rankings nationally in PPP and Renewables & Alternative Energy, along with national rankings for Energy: Electricity and Projects: Power. We won Chambers USA Power Firm of the Year in 2017 and are nominated for the second time this year. Chambers reports that in the E&I space “clients value the strong bench at this firm and the business acumen displayed by the attorneys.” In IP, Chambers described Orrick as “a go-to firm for household names in the electronics and software spaces” with “high-caliber trial lawyers.”
In finance, we earned seven practice rankings in Banking & Finance, Real Estate, Capital Markets: Securitization, Capital Markets: Debt & Equity and Bankruptcy/Restructuring. Chambers recognizes our “extensive finance practice fielding significant national and international capabilities as well as deep relationships with California-based clients.” One client reports that we “think like a client and offer very integrated solutions that cover the bases.”
Our litigation and regulatory teams earned 22 rankings. These include nationwide rankings for our Appellate Law team, which has a “tremendous understanding of how to move an appellate matter through the courts”. Our Labor & Employment team was noted for its "excellent technical knowledge" with "high-quality lawyers and deep resources," and was nominated for an Award of Excellence for 2018. Our Product Liability & Mass Torts team was also nominated for an Award of Excellence. Our Securities Litigation and White Collar teams are ranked Band 2 in California, with a client noting that our team comprises “some of the best white-collar attorneys I have had the pleasure of working with.” Additionally, Orrick teams receiving new recognition this year include Corporate Crime & Investigations and FCPA, nationally, and Antitrust in Washington, D.C.
Earlier this year, Chambers Global ranked Orrick in 42 practice areas and 91 individual categories. The Chambers regional directories also ranked Orrick for local excellence in key markets: Chambers Europe (22 practices and 47 individuals), Chambers Asia (11 practices and 16 individuals) and Chambers UK (four practices and 13 individuals).
