Orrick Advises Deutsche Telekom on Creation of U.S./Germany Smart Glasses Joint Venture with ZEISS

Orrick advised Deutsche Telekom on the creation of a joint venture with the ZEISS Group for the development of innovative smart glasses.

The company, tooz technologies, is based in the U.S. and Germany. Equally funded, the company assumes strategic and operational responsibility for the further evolution of the optical technology invented by ZEISS, and the delay-free connectivity provided by Telekom.

Deutsche Telekom is one of the leading integrated telecommunications companies worldwide, with around 165 million mobile customers, 28.5 million fixed-line and 18.5 million broadband connections.

ZEISS is a global technology group in the optical and optoelectronic industry with around 27,000 employees. The company generated sales of around €5.3 billion in the 2016/17 financial year.

Deutsche Telekom was advised by an international Orrick team led by partners Sven Greulich (M&A and Private Equity, Düsseldorf), Christian Schröder (Cyber, Privacy & Data Innovation / IP, Düsseldorf) and John Bautista (Technology Companies Group, Silicon Valley), and Of Counsel Elizabeth Lefever (Technology Companies Group, Silicon Valley). Dr. Jan Christoph Pfeffer was in charge of the legal aspects of the project for Deutsche Telekom.
