Public Counsel has honored Orrick Senior Associate Kevin Askew with its 2016 Public Counsel Pro Bono Award for his representation of a Palestinian man seeking asylum in the immigration system. Kevin was selected by Public Counsel’s Immigrants’ Rights Project for his dedicated work on behalf of his client.  Kevin has been fighting for his client’s asylum rights for the past four years, representing the client in several evidentiary hearings in Immigration Court and in an appeal currently pending before the Board of Immigration Appeals.

David R. Daniels, Public Counsel’s Pro Bono Director, says Kevin’s support of his client “exemplifies the selfless dedication that is at the heart of Public Counsel’s pro bono mission.”  Each year, Public Counsel recognizes an outstanding group of pro bono attorneys and volunteers who offer their services in the most difficult circumstances. Kevin will formally receive his award at a later date.

The award to Kevin is the latest recognition for Orrick’s firm-wide pro bono efforts. The American Lawyer’s 2016 Pro Bono Report ranked Orrick #9 among the nation’s top 200 law firms for the third consecutive year, both in the U.S. and internationally.
