Sarah Mullins Senior Associate

Sarah is an associate in the firm's Intellectual Property group. Before law school, Sarah worked for four years in the in-house legal departments of major technology companies. She draws on her in-house experience to understand her clients' businesses and needs and to come up with creative solutions to their legal challenges.

Immediately prior to joining Orrick, Sarah clerked for Justice Daniel E. Winfree of the Alaska Supreme Court.

During law school, Sarah gained civil litigation experience as a clinical intern in the East Bay Community Law Center's Consumer Justice Clinic and served as a student director of Berkeley Law's Appellate Advocacy course.

Jennifer Ng Senior Patent Agent

San Francisco

Jennifer works with life sciences clients in the areas of genomics, genome editing, antibody therapeutics, immuno-oncology therapies, cell-based therapies, protein therapeutics, antisense technologies, and pharmaceutical compositions and formulations. She has experience in preparing and prosecuting US and foreign patent applications, strategic counseling and managing global patent portfolios, and performing due diligence, freedom to operate, and patentability analyses.

Prior to joining Orrick, Jennifer was a senior patent agent at a large national law firm in San Francisco.

Before becoming a patent agent, Jennifer was a postdoctoral fellow at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease and she investigated cardiomyocyte differentiation from stem cells. Her doctoral studies at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies focused on transcriptional regulatory systems during organ development. She has co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles in the fields of genetics, molecular biology and cell biology.

Yvonne T. Nyborg is an Employee Benefits Analyst with 28 years of experience providing sophisticated legal services to large clients with multiple complex tax-qualified retirement plans.  As an Employee Benefits Analyst, she provides high level legal services at reduced rates. 

She focuses on qualified retirement plan design and compliance, including company acquisitions and dispositions, plan mergers and spinouts, large controlled group nondiscrimination testing analysis, plan drafting and preparation of employee communications and enrollment materials.  Yvonne has extensive experience in defined benefit plan compliance issues, and in terminations of large defined benefit plans in accordance with Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation requirements.  She is also an authority on obtaining favorable determination letters from the Internal Revenue Service approving the tax-qualified status of various types of retirement plans, and in responding to Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor plan audits.  In addition, Yvonne is highly proficient in answering day-to-day administration issues and in assisting attorneys with the research of legal issues impacting all types of employee benefit plans.

Yvonne has completed courses I-III, VI, VIII, IX, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist Program, 1987-1993, and holds a Certificate from the Institute for Employee Benefits Training, 1985.  She received her B.A. degree from the State University of New York at Albany in 1984.

Reese Oñate Managing Associate
