Damon Stewart Of Counsel

Damon focuses his practice on state and locally based legislative and regulatory issues. He has experience inside of government, having served as Assistant Counsel to the New York Senate Majority. Subsequent to his time in the Senate, he served as a Vice President for the Parkside Group, a New York lobbying firm. He eventually transitioned to an in-house corporate position as Vice President for State Government Affairs for DIRECTV, with a national purview overseeing all aspects of state and local legislative matters for the company. Immediately prior to joining Orrick, he served as Vice President of Government Affairs and State Advocacy Coordinator at AT&T, maintaining national responsibility for satellite-related issues.

Laurie Strauch Weiss Partner

New York

Laurie advises companies on overall strategies, from pre-litigation assessments to the final resolution of matters, which often involve novel scientific issues. Her clients frequently enlist her to strategically address the scientific claims asserted by non-governmental organizations, the plaintiffs' bar and consumer advocacy groups which affect the reputation of their products both before and during litigation.

Laurie is a frequent lecturer, author and media source on topics concerning mass tort/class actions, complex scientific issues and expert witnesses.

Prior to joining Orrick, Laurie was an associate at Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine LLP, where she gained extensive experience in complex litigation including class actions based on product liability, securities RICO and fraud claims.

Anna Stuart Senior Associate

New York

Anna provides strategic cybersecurity compliance counseling and develops bespoke, forward-looking incident preparedness strategies. She also supports cybersecurity risk assessments and tabletop exercises designed to identify potential gaps.

She also counsels on incident response matters by directing incident investigations, analyzing claims and defenses, examining potential notification obligations and counseling on communications strategies. She provides guidance on the regulatory investigations, class actions and contract disputes that flow from the announcement of privacy and cybersecurity incidents. She has defended Fortune 500 companies in state and federal courts across the nation on cybersecurity and general business issues.

During law school, she was a Legal Intern at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Division.

Rochelle Swartz Senior Associate

New York

Rochelle has experience representing individuals and companies in all stages of complex litigation, from pleadings through trial, final judgment, and appeal. She practices both civil and criminal law in federal and state courts across the country.

Rochelle has particular expertise in disputes involving the government. During her tenure at Orrick, Rochelle has litigated almost a dozen Article 78 challenges in Supreme Courts around the state, including petitions raising issues of statutory and constitutional law. She has also led several of those petitions through subsequent appeals to the Appellate Division and the Court of Appeals. In addition, Rochelle has experience defending individuals in federal investigations and prosecutions involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) 

Rochelle's current engagements include representing companies in complex actions involving products liability, trademark infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, and bet-the-company contract disputes. She also manages a large docket of civil rights pro bono matters.

Sumaia Tabassum Associate

Sumaia is experienced in inter partes review proceedings and IP due diligence, including matters involving pharmaceuticals, software, electronics, and medical devices. She also has a strong technical background from her prior work as a systems engineer, and has supported projects involving complex technologies.

Robert Taylor Counsel

New York

A veteran antitrust litigator, Rob has litigated and counseled on high-profile antitrust matters on behalf of leading companies in a wide range of sectors, including litigated merger challenges, putative antitrust class actions, government antitrust investigations, and private actions against competitors. He has successfully litigated cutting-edge competition matters, including defending against allegations of algorithmic collusion and price-fixing through the use of software.

From late 2018 through early 2019, Rob completed a secondment at the litigation department of a major media company.

Rob maintains an active pro bono practice, where his work has focused primarily on benefits applications and appeals for low-income disabled veterans.

Prior to joining Orrick, Rob was an active-duty Army JAG officer, where he served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, an administrative law attorney, and a special victims counsel, among other roles. As a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, he first-chaired more than 10 trials in federal court, including two jury trials.
