Les is a Partner in the Public Finance practice group in Orrick’s Seattle office. He has served as bond counsel, disclosure counsel and underwriters’ counsel on public and privately placed tax-exempt and taxable debt issued by airports and ports, mass transit agencies, electric and water utilities, industrial development agencies and bond banks, higher education institutions and health care facilities. He has experience in advising clients in such financings in several states and U.S. territories, including Alaska, California, Guam, Nevada, New York, Oregon and Washington.
During the course of his practice, Les has worked on various types of financing structures, including standard general obligation and revenue bond financings, bond and grant anticipation financings, master trust indenture financings, conduit financings, pooled financings, variable rate bonds and current and advance refundings.
Prior to joining Orrick, Les was an associate in the Capital Markets practice group at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in New York, where he represented major foreign and domestic banks and boutique financial institutions as issuers, depositors, loan sellers, underwriters, initial purchasers and placement agents in connection with approximately $20 billion of public and private offerings of commercial mortgage-backed securities and collateralized loan obligations.

In 2004, John chaired the Magistrate Selection Committee for the Federal District Court in the Western District of Washington. He has also served on several Merit Selection panels identifying candidates for appointment to the federal bench in the Western District of Washington. He is currently co-chair of the Federal Appointments Committee for the Federal Bar Association and has served as a Ninth Circuit Representative. He was once appointed to serve as a Special Master in a matter pending before the Federal District Court in the Western District of Washington to investigate issues related to a multi-party joint defense agreement.

Alice represents public and private companies in complex employment litigation, with experience across industries including technology, entertainment, automotive, and retail. She has successfully defended employers in high-stakes class and representative actions, including those brought under the Equal Pay Act, Washington’s Equal Pay & Opportunities Act, PAGA, the WARN Act, and wage and hour laws in both Washington and California. In addition to class actions, Alice regularly defends employers in sensitive single-plaintiff cases involving discrimination, retaliation, and whistleblower allegations—often brought by senior executives or other high-profile employees. She also advises companies navigating employee mobility disputes, including those involving alleged trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, or the enforcement of restrictive covenants.
No matter the case, Alice crafts an approach that is both efficient and effective. A trusted advisor, she partners closely with clients to develop a practical, business-focused solution to litigation in any venue, including federal and state courts, arbitration, and in government investigations. Eric brings to his role at Orrick extensive experience in the military, governmental and corporate sectors. He served for seven years in Intelligence in the U.S. Air Force and for twelve years as a Cyber Intelligence Officer with the Central Intelligence Agency. He has worked in the private sector, including in post-breach situations, both with leading cyber consultants and global enterprises in the U.S. and UK. Most recently, he was Global CISO at publicly traded global pharma group Kyowa Kirin.
Eric serves as an advisor to startups and venture capital firms dedicated to transforming cybersecurity, including Confidencial, Radiant Security, NDAY Security, NightDragon and Halcyon Inc.
Outside of work, Eric enjoys fishing, cruising, visiting Disney parks and traveling to historical sites.

Emily focuses her practice on advising clients on a wide range of real estate finance matters, including commercial mortgage-backed securities, acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancing transactions. Her expertise extends to negotiating and drafting loan agreements, purchase and sale agreements, conducting due diligence, and ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements. In addition to her work in the Real Estate Finance Group, Emily has also collaborated with Orrick’s Energy and Infrastructure team to help them navigate the real estate issues for solar and battery developments.
Emily is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Law and was previously a summer associate at Orrick.

He also advises companies and executives in connection to regulatory investigations, class actions, enforcement actions, and other disputes that frequently flow from privacy and cybersecurity incidents.
Joe helps clients respond quickly and with integrity to protect their brand, build trust and mitigate legal risk. He is highly skilled at directing incident investigations, analyzing potential claims and defenses, examining potential notification obligations and advising on effective communications strategies. He draws on this experience to help companies proactively prepare for an incident through creative strategies that foster engagement and collaboration between legal, security, communications and leadership teams. This includes building and improving incident response programs through response plans, simulated incidents, threat workshops, and training. In addition, Joe assists clients in practically evaluating the legal risk of security decisions in a variety of transactions and across the product lifecycle.
He also provides strategic advice to cybersecurity companies, including those looking to push technological and defense boundaries in cyber defense, incident response, and threat intelligence. This includes helping companies maximize their security offerings by navigating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), and the Federal Wiretap Act, as well as state law analogs.
Joe serves on Orrick’s Finance and Audit and Pro Bono Committees. A leader and advocate for diversity and inclusion initiatives, Joe is the co-head of Orrick’s Latinx Inclusion Network and was selected as a 2024 Rising Star by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA). With an emphasis on project development and tax-driven finance, Jeff advises developers, sponsors, lenders, investors and utilities across the renewable energy spectrum. He has extensive experience guiding clients on complex tax equity transactions to finance and develop utility-scale solar and wind, distributed solar, geothermal, fuel cell, biomass and other projects that promote a low carbon energy transition.
Previously, Jeff spent four years working as a litigation consultant, an experience that equipped him with a deep understanding of the factors that lead to litigation and effective ways to prevent it.
