Francesca Morency パートナー

A member of Orrick’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution team, Francesca has extensive experience litigating challenging, high-stakes cases on behalf of her clients, including in some of the most high-profile and impactful wins for the NCAA.  In addition to her trial prowess, she also has conducted internal investigations and has been called upon to assist with regulatory and administrative challenges that her clients face day-to-day.

Francesca has guided the preparation of significant litigation and arbitration matters, from the drafting stage through discovery, depositions, expert and lay witnesses, and through motions and trial.  Having served on a secondment to a Fortune 5 client, she understands well the importance of effective and proactive case management.  Francesca provides empathetic, targeted advice to clients, and she moves matters forward with energy and efficiency.

Prior to working in private practice, Francesca served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Judge Ivan D. Davis, United States Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of Virginia.  In that role, she handled primarily civil discovery matters.

He has litigated patents at trial, before the ITC, and on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Rich has counseled clients and rendered opinions on patent validity, infringement and freedom to use. He is a registered patent attorney with experience drafting patents and practicing before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Rich’s patent work has involved a wide range of technologies including image processing, 3d graphics, audio / video compression, computer hardware and software, e-commerce, network technologies, digital rights management and encryption.

Rich also helps companies address the novel litigation and transactional IP issues that arise when developing and working with AI and is a frequent lecturer on these topics.

Amisha partners with in-house counsel to devise and execute strategies that align with advancing their overall business goals. She has experience at all stages of litigation – including drafting pleadings and motions, successfully arguing motions, taking and defending depositions, preparing for trial, mediation, arbitration and settlement. She has represented clients in state and federal courts, and before the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and foreign competition authorities.

She has significant investigations experience, having represented senior executives and high-profile individuals in internal and government agency investigations – including the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities & Exchange Commission.

Amisha previously taught at The George Washington University Law School as an adjunct professor in the Scholarly Writing Program. She maintains an active pro bono practice, representing clients in state and federal court and before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. She has drafted cert-stage and amicus briefs in cases before the U.S. Supreme Court in the areas of immigration and affirmative action.

As a partner, he represented public and private high growth technology companies, and venture capital funds in a broad range of industries including, energy, semiconductors, Internet, software and consumer products. He has extensive experience in start-up enterprises, venture financings, public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and has advised companies and investors in cross border transactions involving Asia.

Larry was appointed in 1995 by President Clinton as one of four U.S. representatives to serve on the panel of arbitrators of the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes.   He has served as an officer and board member for numerous non-profit organizations.   From 2021 to 2023, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of Ascend, the largest network of Asian professionals.  

Larry has published articles that have appeared in publications of the California Continuing Education of the Bar and the Practicing Law Institute. He has made presentations to the Practicing Law Institute, Law Journal Seminars, Silicon Valley Association of Start up Entrepreneurs, University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, University of California at Berkeley, Haas Business School, UC Berkeley Law and the California State Bar among others.  He was a lecturer at Stanford Law School during the Fall of 2024.
