Orrick partner Nick Green was profiled in this Law360 feature naming him a 2020 Rising Star in the Sports & Betting Law category, highlighting his work for professional sports leagues and the fantasy sports industry in shaping laws permitting sports betting in states around the country.
The publication notes Nick’s influential work as part of Orrick’s Public Policy Group in legislative efforts in states such as Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana, where sports betting was legalized over the past year. Nick is part of a team led by partners Jeremy Kudon, head of our public policy group, and Scott Ward who represent Major League Baseball, the NBA, the PGA, FanDuel and DraftKings, among others, in crafting legislative solutions to allow sports betting in the states.
In the feature, Nick described the innovative effort behind Tennessee’s legislation and the role he plays in working with our clients. "Much of my role in this has been working closely with the clients to identify what their objectives are and getting those into legislation," Nick told Law360. "It is not just boots on the ground, lobbying legislators; it is behind the scenes creating advocacy messaging and dealing with some of the trickier legal issues that tend to come up. Like, 'Can we do this?' 'If we do this, what are the unintended consequences and how do we solve for those problems?'"
