Avery graduated from The George Washington University Law School with a concentration in Business & Finance Law. During law school, he interned for the Oregon Department of Justice (Financial Fraud and Consumer Protection Section), the Securities & Exchange Commission (Division of Enforcement), and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (Office of Enforcement). Avery also interned for Commissioner Kristin N. Johnson at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Before law school, Avery worked in Anti-Money Laundering and Bank Secrecy Act compliance at a major bank. Avery has a B.Sc. in Economics and a B.A. in History from Santa Clara University.

Lauren works on single plaintiff and class action employment matters, defending against discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour claims in state and federal trial and appellate courts. She also assists clients with conducting internal investigations and provides clients with guidance on pay equity-related matters.
Prior to joining Orrick, Lauren spent more than seven years as an associate in the litigation group of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP representing clients in complex litigation matters, including commercial and employment actions. Lauren's practice at Sullivan & Cromwell also included an active pro bono docket focusing on reproductive rights and LGBTQ and immigration issues.

Alex's litigation work spans a range of subject areas, from copyright and patent law to questions of statutory interpretation and constitutional law. She has been the lead drafter of briefs and motions in federal and state courts of appeals and contributed to teams working in the U.S. Supreme Court and state and federal courts of all levels.
Alex maintains an active pro bono practice. Her scholarship has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court. Before joining Orrick, she served as a law clerk to Judge Anthony Scirica of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Judge Cornelia Pillard of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She received her law degree from New York University School of Law.
Los Angeles
Maria drafts and reviews purchase and sale agreements, loan agreements and closing documents for investment funds, institutional investors and developers on real estate transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, financings, developments and dispositions. She also advises on lease agreements.
While in law school, Maria was a member of the International Human Rights Law Clinic for multiple semesters, where she worked to pass local resolutions in both the cities of Berkeley and San Francisco based on international human rights principles. She also participated in the East Bay Community Law Center’s Community Economic Justice Clinic.
Maria is also passionate about diversity and recruitment efforts. She served as the recruitment chair for La Alianza’s Law Student Association as well as an Admissions Ambassador at Berkeley Law. Now she is an active member of Orrick’s Latinx Attorneys inclusion network.
Maria was previously a summer associate at Orrick in 2020.
