Dr. Nicholas Kessler, Partner in the Düsseldorf Office, is a member of the International Arbitration Group. Nicholas' practice focuses on national and international arbitrations and complex litigations, predominantly with regard to post-M&A and corporate law disputes, investment protection cases, product liability and particularly to construction disputes.
Nicholas has extensive experience with arbitral proceedings under the auspices of all of the major arbitral institutions and rules (e.g., ICC, DIS, SCC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, ICSID, ad hoc).
Nicholas graduated from law school in 2003 (University of Munster), earned a PhD in law and an Executive Master of Business Administration (M&A) in 2005 and was allowed to the German bar in 2007. In 2008 he received a Master of Laws diploma from the University of Cambridge (UK) and was entered on the roll as Solicitor of England & Wales in 2010.
Dr. Kessler is a visiting lecturer at the University of Münster and teaches the international arbitration and mediation in the university's post graduate program on mergers and acquisitions. He frequently publishes and holds speeches on arbitration and litigation-related topics.
Dr. André Zimmermann, a Certified Specialist for Employment Law (Fachanwalt für Arbeitsrecht), heads Orrick’s German Employment Practice. With well more than ten years of international experience, André is well-versed in restructuring and headcount reduction, employment aspects of M&A transactions and employment related litigation with a sector focus on technology companies and multi-jurisdictional and cross-border employment law issues.
André is listed as "frequently recommended" employment law expert by JUVE Handbook of German Commercial Law Firms, editions 2017/2018, 2018/19 and 2019/2020, Germany's leading lawyer ranking, and has been ranked as top employment lawyer by renown German business weekly WirtschaftsWoche 2019. André advises companies on a wide range of HR legal matters with a special sector focus on technology companies, including hiring and discrimination concerns, misclassification, multi-jurisdictional and cross-border employment issues, HR data privacy compliance, roll out of employee handbooks and policies, performance management and terminations. Having long-standing experience in negotiating with works councils and unions in restructuring measures of all kind, a special focus of André's practice is on restructuring, outsourcing and headcount reductions. He is an acknowledged specialist in employing third-party personnel, especially through temporary agency work.
André has thorough knowledge of and genuine passion for the tech industry. Most recently, he has advised leading multinational technology companies such as Pinterest, Flexera, GitHub, Nvidia, Optimizely, Sabre and Splunk on various employment matters.

Christoph has broad and longstanding experience and focus on private equity transactions (leveraged buy-outs, management buy-outs as well as minority participations and expansion or growth financings) and M&A transactions, often with cross-border aspects. He regularly acts for private equity sponsors, corporate and strategic buyers, owners and management teams.
Christoph graduated from the University of Munich where he also earned his Ph.D. (Dr. jur.) in 2000. Furthermore, he earned a law degree (maîtrise en droit) from Paris University (Paris II, Panthéon-Assas). In 2002/2003 Christoph worked as foreign attorney in London.
Prior to joining Orrick in Munich, Christoph was partner at another international law firm renowned for its international private equity practice.
Christoph is Managing Partner of the German Orrick offices together with Oliver Duys.
Dr. Oliver Duys is a member of the M&A/Private Equity Group.
He has extensive experience in complex corporate transactions including private equity and venture capital transactions, real estate portfolio deals, joint ventures and fund formation as well as restructuring. He also advises on Management Participation Programs and liability issues in this context.
Oliver Duys is Managing Partner of the German Orrick offices along with Dr. Christoph Brenner.
Oliver Duys worked for Slaughter and May and Hengeler Mueller. Following his partnership at Hölters & Elsing since 2006, Oliver Duys is a partner at Orrick since 2008.
In conventional energy, our experience includes working with IOUs, municipal utilities, electric cooperatives and several Indian tribes. We also work with these entities and a variety of public and private developers on alternative and renewable energy projects. In many cases, we bring together our power purchase agreement-based energy practice with our emerging company equity financing practice focusing on clean energy to apply public finance tax-exempt debt financing to specific projects and programs.
