Margaret concentrates her work principally on complex technology-based litigation as well as copyright, trademark and trade secret portfolio management. As a former aerospace engineer, Margaret has a passion for finding innovative tech-driven solutions and brings to the table both a depth of experience in technology as well as an understanding of clients' bottom-line needs. Before practicing law, Margaret worked as a systems engineer in the defense and aerospace industry, including at the Department of Defense, Orbcomm Inc., and co-founded an all-female micro-rocket start up based out of Durham, NC.

Prior to joining Orrick, Margaret served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Evan J. Wallach at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and was an associate at a Vault 100 firm in Washington, D.C. She also worked in-house at SpaceX Technologies.

Ian Adams is a public policy attorney in Orrick's Sacramento offices. He advises clients on matters at the intersection of law, business and public policy with a focus on highly-automated vehicle technologies and insurance.

His experience in the automotive technology and mobility industry includes testifying before Congress about HAV deployment and regulation, as well as representing clients AIMotive, Baidu, Getaround, NVIDIA, and Scotty Labs.

In addition, Ian is the vice president of policy at TechFreedom, a think tank focused on examining the disruptive impact of burgeoning technologies on law and regulation.

Earlier in his career, Ian was associate vice president of government affairs with the R Street Institute, where he coordinated the think tank's outreach and engagement at the federal, state and local levels. He was also a Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellow with the office of California State Assemblyman Curt Hagman, R-Chino Hills, while Hagman served as vice chairman of the California Assembly Insurance Committee, and served as a legislative aide with the office of Oregon state Rep. Bruce Hanna, R-Roseburg, who was then co-speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives. Ian has also worked as a law clerk for California’s largest insurance trade association.

Ian is a graduate of Seattle University, with bachelor's degrees in history and philosophy, and received his law degree from the University of Oregon. He is a member of the California and Illinois bars.

Charles Adams, Jr., is the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to the Republic of Finland (2015-2017) and Global Co-Head of Orrick's International Arbitration Practice Group based in Geneva.

Charles' experience spans four decades at the highest levels of international dispute resolution, in more than 300 international arbitration proceedings as counsel and chairman or party-arbitrator in arbitral fora all over the world.

Charles also has 10 years’ membership on the Board of Trustees of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC).

Amy Adovasio Project Attorney

Amy Adovasio is a member of the Orrick Analytics group. The group specializes in using technology and project management discipline to assist firm attorneys with litigation and transactional tasks, particularly tasks that involve large volumes of data and documents.

Amy works with litigation attorneys and third party vendors to manage the review and production of documents relevant to investigations and litigation. This work includes using early case assessment technology to analyze, categorize and cull data. She also manages teams of specialists performing document review, redaction, analysis, production and drafting privilege logs. Amy assists the litigation team to prepare for trial, including drafting deposition summaries, factual memoranda and exhibit charts. She also works with practice office attorneys on transactional tasks, including contract review and due diligence.

Prior to joining Orrick, Amy was a law clerk for the Honorable Edwin M. Kosik at the United States District Court, Middle District of Pennsylvania and a pro se law clerk at the United States District Court, Middle District of Pennsylvania.

For more than 25 years, James Aiosa has represented clients in national and international complex toxic and mass tort litigation, including in state and federal class actions, multi-district litigation, and appeals, involving military, commercial/agricultural, and consumer products and associated chemical compounds.

Jim has deep case management experience, serving as lead coordinating counsel in litigation involving chemical exposures, environmental contaminants, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides, as well as other chemicals, compounds and products considered persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic.

Jim has also represented large commercial insurance companies in toxic tort, environmental, product liability, and property damage matters, including cases involving PCBs, TCE, asbestos, and tobacco, as well as employment discrimination class action claims.

Serving as lead counsel, Jim has had extensive involvement in a range of complex mass tort and class action products liability litigation, both foreign and domestic, involving military, consumer, and commercial/agricultural products containing dioxins and furans, hexachlorobenzene (HCB), pentachlorophenol (PCP), arsenic, cacodylic acid, and other organic arsenicals. He has defended chemical product manufacturers against claims involving cancers, endocrine-related disorders, neurological complaints, neurodevelopmental deficiencies and other alleged multi-generational effects, pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, fear of future diseases, and medical monitoring. Jim also has prodigious experience in developing the legal and scientific responses to such claims, including those for medical monitoring and future medical surveillance.

Jim has played an integral role in the development of his clients’ medical and scientific defenses and trial strategies relating to these issues, including the identification and development of medical and scientific expert witnesses and associated arguments and evidence. In the course of his efforts, Jim has worked closely with a range of world-class scientists and clinicians to apply efficiently and effectively principles of toxicology, epidemiology, risk assessment, and biostatistics, in the defense of his clients. Jim also has extensive experience addressing the complex procedural and jurisdictional issues, obstacles, and opportunities frequently presented by complex toxic tort litigation, particularly those venued internationally, including by developing and executing effective strategies for addressing such challenges and controversies both pre-and-post-litigation.
