Shinsuke Yakura is the Office Leader of Orrick's Tokyo office and a member of the Complex Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. He is an expert in handling cross-border litigation, arbitration, intellectual property and compliance matters.
His practice focuses on intellectual property, antitrust, product liability, medical and pharmaceutical, and other commercial disputes for both domestic and foreign companies. He actively engages in cross-border litigation and arbitration, and draws on his extensive knowledge and experience from various countries.
In regards to intellectual property, Shinsuke has represented numerous companies in patent infringement litigation involving a wide range of technologies related to electric devices and industrial machinery. He has also handled other IP-related issues such as trademark, copyright and right to publicity. He is a qualified patent attorney (Benrishi) in Japan.
Recently, he has been involved in business and legal issues related to artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and big data; he also acts as the Asia representative of Orrick’s Global AI Working Group.
Consistently providing strategic advice from a global perspective, he is also actively involved in bribery regulations including FCPA and UKBA, antitrust and competition law, cartel, fraud and compliance investigations.
He also advises in mergers and acquisitions, licensing and other transactional matters.
Wei (Carol) Yan, a senior associate in Orrick’s Beijing office, is a member of the Intellectual Property Group.
Carol’s practice focuses on patent filing and prosecution, patent-related legal advice and patent litigation across a broad range of industries, including chemistry, materials science, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, semiconductor and auto mechanics. Carol has extensional experience in patent, trademark, domain name, copyright and trade secret.
Before joining Orrick, Carol worked with Lung Tin International Property Agent Ltd. and in Jones Day’s Beijing Office.
Michael Yang is a partner in Orrick's Compensation and Benefits Group. He is based in the firm's Santa Monica office.
Michael's practice focuses on the representation of U.S. and international public and private high technology companies, as well as executives, management teams and founders with compensation and employee benefits issues in the context of M&A transactions, spin-offs, venture capital financings and IPOs.Michael also advises on day-to-day tax, employment, accounting and securities law issues in connection with the design, administration and implementation of executive compensation and equity compensation arrangements, including employment agreements, severance arrangements, change in control carve-out plans, stock option plans and employee stock purchase plans with a particular focus on Code Sections 409A, 280G and 162(m). In addition, he advises on nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements, tax-qualified retirement plans and welfare benefit plans.

Sean Yates is a Public Finance lawyer based in San Francisco focusing on transportation and affordable housing.
Sean serves as bond counsel and disclosure counsel on a variety of public finance transactions, including general obligation financings, sales tax revenue financings, and lease revenue financings for public agencies. Sean's experience includes counseling large public transportation agencies, and assisting in the financing of affordable housing and charter schools throughout California.
Sean earned his J.D. from the University of California, Davis in 2018, and his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2013. Prior to joining Orrick, Sean worked as a mortgage analyst with JVM Lending, where he assisted California homebuyers with purchase money loans and refinances.
Shannon K. Yavorsky is a leading authority on U.S. and European data privacy and security issues. She is uniquely qualified in California, England and Wales and Ireland, bringing a deep understanding of the increasingly complex global privacy and data security regulatory landscape.
Shannon routinely advises clients on a broad range of U.S. and European data privacy and cybersecurity issues. She advises on emerging issues surrounding the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the e-Privacy Directive. Shannon helps clients undertake comprehensive privacy and cybersecurity assessments worldwide, evaluate privacy and security risks in corporate transactions, and draft and negotiate contracts concerning data-related vendors and arrangements. She also advises and represents clients on cross-border data transfers, data breaches and developing global privacy compliance programs. She has significant experience with model contract clauses, privacy policies, website terms and conditions, data processing agreements, and self-certifying to the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Frameworks.

Sook Young Yeu is the Office Leader of Orrick’s Hong Kong office and a member of the M&A and Private Equity Group.
Sook focuses her practice on corporate and securities matters in connection with the establishment of private investment funds and ongoing representation of investment funds, fund managers, fund sponsors and fund investors. This includes private equity and venture capital investment, along with related mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and public and private securities offerings throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
During the last 30 years, Sook has advised Asian institutional investors investing in U.S., European and Asian private funds, as well as Asian private equity and venture capital funds sponsored by U.S., European and Asian financial institutions, and Asian hedge funds managed by independent fund managers. Her extensive experience covers virtually every type of fund, including private equity funds, venture capital funds, real estate investment funds, hedge funds, buyout funds, mezzanine funds, funds-of-funds, co-investment funds and restructuring funds.
Sook has served as the administrative partner in charge of Orrick’s Hong Kong office since 2005. Before joining Orrick, she was a partner of Coudert Brothers and the partner in charge of its Hong Kong office responsible for the firm’s Asian Investment Management Practice.
Justin Yi, a corporate partner in Orrick’s Santa Monica office, is a member of our M&A and Private Equity group.
Justin focuses his practice on complex business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, reorganizations, recapitalizations and minority investments, as well as general corporate and securities law matters. Justin represents corporations, private equity firms and investors across a wide range of industries, including media, sports and entertainment, technology, food and beverage, apparel and asset management.
Justin has represented clients such as Vivendi, Universal Music Group, See Tickets, Diversis Capital, Z Capital, Siris Capital and Cerberus Capital Management.

Eva Ying, an associate in Orrick’s Hong Kong office, is a member of the M&A and Private Equity Group.
Eva focuses her practice on representing private and public companies in cross-border mergers and acquisitions and private equity investments across the Greater China region.
She advises major hedge funds and private equity funds on fund formation and investments, as well as fund compliance and regulatory matters.
In addition, she has experience in handling Hong Kong initial public offerings, global financings and general corporate matters.
Prior to joining Orrick, Eva worked at Sidley Austin in Hong Kong.
Vincent Yiu is a managing associate in Orrick’s New York office and is a member of the Restructuring group.
Vincent advises major stakeholders in domestic and cross-border insolvency proceedings across a variety of industries, including retail, food, energy, materials, healthcare, and financial services.
Vincent graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in International Relations and is a graduate of Stanford Law School.
Prior to joining Orrick, Vincent was an associate at an international law firm with its Business, Finance & Restructuring practice, also based in New York.
Yolanda Yong is a senior associate in the Corporate group and has advised on a range of cross border and domestic transactions focusing on the energy and infrastructure sector. Yolanda advises across both the corporate and project documentation for energy and infrastructure projects and also advises on general corporate matters for companies.
Yolanda has significant experience in the energy and infrastructure space and is comfortable advising across construction, project documentation and corporate law matters which means she is able to provide a holistic service to clients.
Yolanda spent almost a year on secondment with a leading wind farm developer as the legal adviser to a joint venture UK offshore wind farm. Yolanda has also been seconded to the head office of a FTSE 250 construction and facilities management company and also to the corporate legal team at IBM.
Yolanda supports pro bono initiatives within the firm and is an active member of the Diversity and Inclusion committee.

Jason Yu is a partner and a member of the Intellectual Property Group.
