Kevin Askew, a senior associate in Orrick’s Los Angeles office, is a securities litigator. He represents companies, officers and directors in securities class actions, shareholder derivative suits, and other complex business litigation matters. Kevin also has substantial experience representing financial institutions, issuers and individuals in connection with SEC investigations and enforcement actions.

Kevin has litigated matters in state and federal courts around the country, in arbitration, in administrative proceedings, and on appeal.

Kevin has also devoted a significant portion of his time to pro bono matters. Public Counsel’s Immigrants’ Rights Project awarded Kevin its 2016 Pro Bono Award in recognition of his representation of an asylum seeker in a long-running matter.

Kevin has published articles on securities-related topics in the Daily Journal, the National Law Journal, Bloomberg BNA, and other publications.

Marie Athaide is a securitization attorney in the New York office representing issuers and underwriters in connection with private and public offerings of asset-backed securities. Her practice focuses on transactions involving a variety of residential mortgage loans, including non-qualified mortgages.

Kenton Atta-Krah is an associate in the White Collar, Investigations, Securities Litigation & Compliance practice group.

Kenton represents clients in civil litigation and white collar matters, including domestic and international internal corporate investigations and regulatory agency investigations. He has trial and litigation experience before the United Nations Dispute Tribunal in New York, and has had experience responding to congressional subpoenas, investigating allegations of sexual abuse by faculty members at an educational institution, and responding to an institutional data breach affecting thousands of people in all 50 states and in several U.S. territories and jurisdictions.

Kenton is active in community service, in particular, through the representation of incarcerated individuals under the Criminal Justice Act (“CJA”), where he has been involved in Section 1983 civil rights actions and other civil matters.

Prior to joining Orrick, Kenton was an Associate at Day Pitney LLP. While in law school, he was a research assistant to Professor Doriane Coleman and interned with the CWS-RDU Immigration and Refugee Program, which provides legal assistance to individuals and families on immigration matters. He also spent time as a Summer Associate at Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah, a law firm in Accra, Ghana.

Ben Austin is an Intellectual Property Litigation Associate in Orrick's Orange County office.  His practice focuses on patent litigation matters.

Ben works on matters involving patent litigation in several technical fields, including semiconductors, graphics processors, and business methods involving computer networks.  In addition to his IP Practice, Ben has pro bono experience with matters concerning immigration.

Ben is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.  While in law school, he was a member of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal and Ecology Law Quarterly.  He also participated in an externship with Chief Judge Frank D. Whitney in the Western District of North Carolina.

Ben graduated as a valedictorian from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering.  While at N.C. State, he was engaged in the Park Scholarship Program all four years.  He also participated in research and multiple technical internships related to nuclear energy.

Jonathan Ayre Partner Oil & Gas, Energy


Jonathan Ayre represents energy, oil and gas, and chemical industry companies and their investors in acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, project development, financing and restructuring transactions. His practice includes the formation of private equity-backed entities investing in the energy, oil and gas, and chemicals industries.

Jonathan’s recent experience includes representing the noteholders in two securitizations of oil and gas wellbore assets of Raisa Energy, an Encap portfolio company, and Diversified Gas & Oil, an AIM listed public company. The transactions were named by Texas Lawbook as Top 10 Most Important Deals in Texas for 2019. He also represented Wells Fargo as administrative agent in connection with the Legacy Reserves prepetition $575 million first-lien RBL facility, $350 million DIP financing and $500 million committed exit facility, which ended in a full cash repayment for Wells Fargo and all lenders under the prepetition first-lien RBL and DIP facilities.

Jonathan serves as a member of Orrick's Professional Development Committee and as the firm's Recruiting Liaison to The University of Texas School of Law.

Vincent Babin is a venture capital lawyer and a member of the Technology Companies Group in Orrick's Paris office.

Vincent advises venture capital  funds, and helps startups and high growth technology companies successfully raise capital and build their businesses from constitution to exit. Through the development of startups, Vincent assists management teams to set up employees’ incentive plans, think through the governance of the company, and provide strategic and practical advice to the founders.
Before joining Orrick, Vincent worked in law firms such as Dechert and Linklaters, and cofounded a startup accelerated at Euratechnologies (Lille).

John Badalich, an associate in Orrick's Los Angeles office, is a member of the General Litigation Group. 

John works on diverse civil litigation matters in both federal and state courts. His experience ranges from intellectual property claims to complex commercial litigation. John is also active in pro bono matters. 

John earned his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law. While in law school, John served as a member of the UCLA Law Supreme Court Clinic, where he participated in drafting a petition for writ of certioriari and an amicus brief to the Supreme Court of the United States. He also served as Managing Editor of the UCLA Entertainment Law Review.

John graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
