Andrew Baw is the Chief Practice Officer for Orrick’s Corporate Business Unit, which encompasses the firm’s Capital Markets, Compensation and Benefits, Technology Companies, M&A/Private Equity and Tax practice groups.
He advises on strategic planning and business management, and his responsibilities include oversight of the business unit’s financial performance management, inventory management, business planning and lawyer recruiting. Andrew previously served as the Director of Business Development for Orrick’s Transactional Practice Groups.
Andrew was formerly a partner at Gunderson Dettmer, where he specialized in emerging companies, including venture capital financings, public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions.
Immediately prior to joining Orrick, Andrew was the Vice President of Business Development and General Counsel for Mobio Networks, a venture-funded start-up. His background also includes experience in venture capital, as a member of the investment team for Storm Ventures, and investment banking, as part of the corporate finance team at Piper Jaffray.
Joi Bourgeois leads Orrick’s efforts to promote diverse and women lawyers to leadership in our firm and our profession. She works directly with the firm’s clients who share our commitment to diversity.
She provides coaching to our lawyers to help them advance. She consults with the firm’s practice and office leadership in pursuing their teams’ diversity goals, including recruitment and sponsorship at all levels. In addition, she helps to introduce innovative programs that foster a stronger sense of community among diverse and women lawyers at Orrick and among our clients.
Joi brings to the role 17 years of experience as a professional coach, coupled with the perspective of a former practicing lawyer. As a partner in the talent development firm Greiner Consulting Group, she has coached 1,500+ attorneys at all levels. She has deep knowledge of the unique opportunities and challenges women, ethnically diverse and LGBTQ attorneys encounter in developing relationships with clients and sponsors. She practiced corporate law at predecessor firms to Clifford Chance and Richards, Kibbe & Orbe. She is sought after as a speaker by law schools and professional organizations, including as a driver of diversity initiatives and programming at the New York City Bar Association.
A graduate of New York University Law School and Northwestern University, Joi speaks French fluently and lives in Westchester and Fairfield Counties with her partner, her two athletic sons and a Pekingese and Pitt Bull.
Wendy is Orrick’s Chief Innovation Officer.
Named the "Most Innovative Lawyer of the Year" by Financial Times in 2018, Wendy is celebrated by clients for her “fresh thinking, legal nuance and practical understanding of the courts.” FT editors noted that “rarely have our panel of judges so quickly homed in on a top candidate for innovative individual.” As Orrick’s Chief Innovation Officer, Wendy leads Orrick’s efforts to operationalize innovation through novel products, streamlined processes, technology and client consulting on tailored solutions. These efforts have contributed to Orrick being named the Most Innovative Law Firm in North America by the Financial Times for three unprecedented years in a row. In 2018, The American Lawyer also honored Orrick with its first-ever Legal Services Innovation Award.
Wendy leads an innovation team of lawyers, technologists, developers, project managers and business professionals. FT notes that Wendy “understand[s] the diversity of roles that make a team great” and has “introduce[ed] many new technologies and delivery models that have transformed the way the firm operates and works with clients.” She is also recognized by Chambers as a leading individual, nationally, in the area of eDiscovery. Wendy is the chair of Orrick’s eDiscovery and Information Governance Group. She has been engaged by Fortune 100 companies and major financial institutions to create and deploy eDiscovery and records management programs. Wendy has substantial experience in pharmaceutical, product liability and class action litigation. Her litigation experience includes multiple trials, supervision of regional and local counsel, management of complex discovery and meet-and-confer negotiations.
Wheeling, W.V. (GOC)
Craig Dean serves as Orrick’s Chief Information Officer and is responsible for the firm’s global technology services and for developing dynamic approaches for the firm's business challenges. He is based in Orrick’s Global Operations Center, located in Wheeling, W.Va.
With more than 30 years of experience in applying innovative technology solutions, Craig's experience includes serving as Orrick's Director of Technology since 2012 where his responsibilities included technical infrastructure operations and architecture, security and governance, Web development, applications management, business development technology, help desk, and project management.
Previously, Craig served as CIO at a large medical device company where he oversaw all global information technology needs and managed the strategic technology direction of the organization. He also served as Director of Corporate Strategy and Development at a top pharmaceutical corporation where he was responsible for developing the company's growth strategy through internal initiatives, strategic planning and acquisitions.
David Fries is a widely recognized expert on the business of law, bringing to bear his extensive experience as a public company senior executive and general counsel with P&L and cost center responsibility and a partner in two global law firms, as well as law firm executive management.
He presently serves as Orrick’s Chief Pricing & Practice Management Officer, assisting the firm and clients reach mutually beneficial fee arrangements and advising the firm on the way it manages its engagements and can apply design theory to client service delivery, as well as various other financial and operational matters.
Formerly Orrick’s Chief Client Service Officer, as well as a partner in Orrick’s Real Estate Group, David also served for seven years at AMB Property Corporation (now Prologis) in San Francisco, Boston and Shanghai, ultimately as Executive Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Corporate Affairs, and Chairman and CEO of AMB China, Ltd. During his tenure at AMB, David was a member of AMB’s Management and Investment Committees and was responsible for overseeing AMB’s human resource, information technology, legal, environmental, engineering and risk management departments, as well as its airport facilities group, venture capital investments and other strategic business initiatives and transactions. In 2004, in addition to his other responsibilities, he led AMB’s entry into the China market, including opening AMB’s first office in China in Shanghai.
As Chief Communications Officer, Jolie Goldstein leads the firm’s strategic communications programs. She works closely with firm management on internal and public relations initiatives and leads a team of media and other communications professionals.
Jolie also plays a leadership role in the firm’s client relationship program. She works with the firm’s relationship partners and client teams globally to ensure optimal communication, offer value added relationship benefits, and meet clients’ service and relationship expectations in the fast-changing legal market.
Jolie has more than 20 years of experience in law firm communications and business development. She began her career at the New York-based international law firm of Rogers & Wells, where she built the firm’s marketing and communications department and served on the senior team that orchestrated Rogers & Wells’ three-way combination with U.K.-based Clifford Chance and Germany-based Punder. As head of Business Development for the Americas Region at Clifford Chance, she led the rebranding of the Americas practice and collaborated with colleagues internationally to integrate the combined firm through the introduction of a global client relationship program and consistent, client-focused approaches to business development.
She is a competitive cyclist, a less competitive road runner and a novice mountaineer.
Siobhan Handley is Orrick’s Chief Talent Officer. She is responsible for developing and executing talent and human resource strategies to advance the firm’s strategy and serve its clients.
In collaboration with the firm’s leadership team, she focuses on designing and implementing programs to recruit, inspire and advance the best legal and staff talent.
Siobhan previously served as Orrick’s Managing Director for Resources. In that role, she spearheaded the development of the firm’s innovative talent model—the first of its kind in a major law firm—which replaces the traditional associate lockstep advancement system with merit-based advancement. As chair of the firm’s Talent Committee, she oversees Orrick’s lawyer training and performance feedback program – which is one of the most rigorous in the market. She also has led the creation of a range of new lawyer and professional staff roles.
Siobhan brings to this role extensive experience on the front line of client service, having been a partner in the firm’s product liability litigation and mass tort defense group. For more than a decade, she was a member of the Orrick team that acted as National Counsel to Union Carbide Corporation in connection with asbestos-related personal injury lawsuits and served as lead trial counsel in cases across the country. Siobhan was one of the key trial counsel in the highly-publicized landmark trial in Texas State Court, Brazoria County, where Kelly-Moore Paint Company sued Union Carbide for $1.4 billion in compensatory damages and $4.2 billion in punitive damages that resulted in a complete defense verdict. In addition, she served as trial counsel for significant product liability cases for other clients including Wyeth and Flexible Products.
Pamela Johnson is the Chief Practice Officer for Orrick’s global Litigation Business Unit, which encompasses approximately 450 lawyers and generates over one-third of the firm’s annual revenue.
She advises on the strategic planning, operation and management of the business unit. Her responsibilities include oversight of the unit's financial performance, business planning and execution, and lawyer recruiting. Pamela oversees the managing attorney's office, which includes the firm-wide court and calendaring functions.
Pamela brings to her position over 20 years of experience in various law firm roles.
She was formerly a commercial real estate lawyer at Steefel, Levitt and Weiss
(now Manatt, Phelps & Phillips) and at Orrick. Her practice focused on the
representation of institutional investors in the acquisition, disposition and
financing of commercial and multifamily properties. Pamela has also served
as Director of Business Development for various transactional and litigation
practice groups at Orrick.
Jennifer Korff is the Chief Practice Office of Orrick’s Energy & Infrastructure Business Unit, which comprises nearly 150 lawyers around the world. She works closely with the business unit leaders on the strategy, operation and management of the practice, including oversight of its financial performance, business planning and execution, lateral partner integration and talent management.
Jennifer has been engaged in all aspects of the business of law. She was a corporate lawyer at Stroock prior to becoming an executive at Sony Music. After earning her MBA at Columbia in 2007, she moved into law firm leadership, helping to negotiate two law firm combinations (first McKee Nelson, later Bingham). Jennifer joined Orrick from Winston & Strawn, where she established the role of Director of Litigation Practice Operations and oversaw the firm's 450-attorney global litigation department.
She and her husband, whom she met on a blind date stemming from the Sony Music-BMG merger, live in New York City with their two daughters.
Larry Low is Orrick's Chief Legal Officer and is located in the San Francisco office. As the Chief Legal Officer, Larry is responsible for strategic planning and managing the firm's global legal affairs, including advising on and overseeing matters relating to governance, litigation, contracts, insurance, ethics and risk management.
In addition to his responsibilities to the firm, Larry represents public and private high growth technology companies, and venture capital funds. His clients are involved in a broad range of industries including, energy, semiconductors, Internet, software and consumer products. He has extensive experience in start-up enterprises, venture financings, public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and advises companies and investors in cross border transactions involving Asia.
Larry was appointed in 1995 by President Clinton as one of four U.S. representatives to serve on the panel of arbitrators of the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes.
Larry has published articles that have appeared in publications of the California Continuing Education of the Bar and the Practicing Law Institute. He has made presentations to the Practicing Law Institute, Law Journal Seminars, Silicon Valley Association of Start up Entrepreneurs, Hastings College of the Law, University of California at Berkeley, Haas Business School and Boalt Hall School of Law and the California State Bar among others.
As Orrick’s Chief Growth & Integration Officer, Merrie Post plays a key role in driving Orrick’s growth strategy. She is passionate about helping the firm source top talent focused on the tech & innovation, energy & infrastructure and finance sectors globally. And she’s equally passionate about helping candidates understand and assess how the Orrick platform can advance their career trajectory.
Merrie supports candidates through each stage in the recruiting conversation. She also ensures that every lateral partner who joins Orrick has a committed sponsor and an actionable plan for business and social integration.
Merrie brings to this work a deep understanding of the legal market, and in particular, the lateral partner recruiting market, compensation and integration. Over the course of her career, she has helped hundreds of partners make successful moves. She previously led Hudson Gate Legal, a search firm, where she focused on partner-level searches. Prior to that, she served as Director of Attorney Development at Cadwalader. She began her career as a corporate associate at Debevoise.
When she’s not talking to top legal talent, Merrie can be found on a spin bike, visiting a great spa, taking a hip hop class, traveling and spending quality time with her husband, Jason and sons, Charlie (age 9) and Alex (age 6).
