For more than a half-century, Alyssa's family patented several mechanical technologies which they developed into a thriving business. Alyssa’s family inspired her love of engineering, as well as her desire to protect innovative ideas. Today Alyssa defends technology companies, ranging from budding start-ups to international corporations. She knows their success depends on it.

Alyssa handles complex patent and copyright litigation, open source licensing and IP counseling.  She has represented companies in all stages of litigation -- from pre-suit investigation, through trial, and on to appeals courts.  She draws upon her engineering degree from Harvey Mudd College to engage with technical professionals and quickly grasp new technologies.  Alyssa has represented clients in connection with a broad spectrum of technologies, ranging from CMOS image sensors and communication systems to software and peripheral computer components to projects in both the aerospace and automotive industries.

Eugene J. Carron Senior Counsel Public Finance

Eugene Carron, Senior Counsel in the Los Angeles office, is a member of the Public Finance Department.

Gene has worked in the area of public finance since 1975 and has extensive experience in all aspects of tax-exempt financing as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, underwriter's counsel and developer's counsel with particular emphasis on electric and water utility financings and conduit financings on behalf of both commercial and nonprofit entities. He has also served as counsel in power and other projects developed by private entities in cooperation with public utilities.

He has assisted public power clients such as the Department of Water and Power of the City of Los Angeles, the Northern California Power Agency, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, the Transmission Agency of Northern California, the M-S-R Public Power Agency, the City of Anaheim, the City of Riverside, the City of Roseville, the City of Healdsburg, the City of Ukiah, the City of Lodi and the City of Redding in connection with both traditional and innovative financing structures.

Gene has served as bond counsel and underwriters’ counsel in conduit financings by the California Educational Facilities Authority and the California Statewide Communities Development Authority for educational and cultural facilities throughout California.

In addition to legal representation, he has experience as an investment banker serving as the head of the Los Angeles office of Banc of America Securities LLC.


Stephen A. Cazares Of Counsel

Steve focuses his practice on representing clients under civil and criminal enforcement proceedings by government agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice and SEC, concerning alleged violations of state and federal laws, including securities laws and FCPA violations, as well as federal antitrust matters. Steve Cazares is a former federal prosecutor and a former enforcement attorney at Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), who leverages his governmental experience with both civil and criminal matters for his clients. During his time as Deputy Chief of the Major Frauds Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, Steve led many of the largest and highest profile white collar investigations and prosecutions in Southern California. Many of these matters involved parallel criminal, civil, and/or SEC regulatory investigations and litigation, making Steve uniquely qualified to assist clients in managing the complexities of parallel civil and criminal proceedings.

Deena is also active in pro bono matters, most recently working with non-profits in her former community of Las Vegas on immigration and constitutional issues.

Prior to joining Orrick, Deena clerked for the Honorable Nancy J. Koppe in the United States District Court, District of Nevada, and while in law school she was the Co-Founder and President of the Armenian Law Students Association. She was a member of Georgetown’s Barrister’s Council’s Alternate Dispute Resolution division, a student attorney with Georgetown's Juvenile Justice Clinic, the Executive Editor for the Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law and Policy, and wrote for the Georgetown Law Technology Review.

Don has extensive experience, as bond counsel, disclosure counsel and underwriter's counsel, in the financing techniques used by school and community college districts, cities and counties in California.
