Gerald Porter Senior Associate

Jerry specializes in high-stakes patent disputes, excelling at distilling complex technical issues into clear, persuasive arguments. He is experienced across all stages of litigation, including pre-suit investigations, motion practice, fact and expert discovery, taking and defending depositions, arguing in federal court, pre-trial filings, trial, post-trial briefing, and appeals. He also has significant experience in patent prosecution before the Patent Office and in inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Using his engineering background, Jerry engages effectively with technical professionals and swiftly grasps new technologies. He provides tailored solutions for clients in diverse industries, including semiconductors, medical devices, biotechnology, cryptocurrency, cybersecurity, and audio and telecommunications.

Alex has experience working with a wide range of asset classes, including agency and non-agency forward and reverse residential mortgage loans, residential transition loans, residential solar loans, tax liens, whole businesses, lease receivables, and non-performing loans.

Radhika K. Raman Managing Associate

She serves as a strategic advisor to emerging companies and venture capital funds, helping them navigate complex challenges in various industries, including digital media and entertainment technology, artificial intelligence services, and crypto/blockchain infrastructure.

Radhika’s practice includes:

• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts

Before her legal career, Radhika worked in the technology sector, where she held both hardware engineering and sales engineering roles. She also practiced as an intellectual property litigator, equipping her with a strong foundation in IP strategy and risk management.

Jonathan Roheim Partner

He is a trusted advisor to private equity real estate investors, funds and institutional lenders on their complex acquisitions, dispositions, financings and developments of office, multifamily, industrial, mixed-use, hotel and golf course properties.

Jon has a particular focus on complex real estate financings, including the origination of mezzanine debt, A/B tiered structures and loan on loan structures, including bridge loans, full construction loans and TI/LC and CapEx future funding facilities.

Jon serves as a relationship co-lead for one of Orrick’s top real estate clients, Walton Street Capital. He also works closely with leading real estate private equity investors, including Westbrook Partners, Cirrus Real Estate Partners and Hackman Capital Partners.

Daniel Rothberg Partner

Los Angeles

Daniel advises private equity clients and other investors in all aspects of their real estate, real estate finance, and related matters, including purchase and sale transactions, development, mortgage and mezzanine financing, preferred equity arrangements, workouts, restructuring transactions, and joint venture formations.

He counsels clients on transactions backed by diverse asset classes throughout the United States, including multifamily, office, industrial, shopping center, data center, and hotel properties, as well as land for development.

Zoe Russell Managing Associate

Zoe works on diverse employment litigation matters. She is also active in pro bono matters.

Zoe received her J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, where she simultaneously earned her M.A. in African American Studies. While in law school, she served as the Co-Chair for the Black Law Students Association and the Director of Affordable Housing for the UCLA Graduate Students Association.

Maria Sanchez Associate

Los Angeles

Maria drafts and reviews purchase and sale agreements, loan agreements and closing documents for investment funds, institutional investors and developers on real estate transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, financings, developments and dispositions. She also advises on lease agreements.

While in law school, Maria was a member of the International Human Rights Law Clinic for multiple semesters, where she worked to pass local resolutions in both the cities of Berkeley and San Francisco based on international human rights principles. She also participated in the East Bay Community Law Center’s Community Economic Justice Clinic.

Maria is also passionate about diversity and recruitment efforts. She served as the recruitment chair for La Alianza’s Law Student Association as well as an Admissions Ambassador at Berkeley Law. Now she is an active member of Orrick’s Latinx Attorneys inclusion network.

Maria was previously a summer associate at Orrick in 2020.

Criselda Haro Sandoval Of Counsel

Los Angeles

She represents lenders, including banks and other financial institutions, and corporate borrowers in a wide range of secured and unsecured commercial financing transactions, including syndicated transactions, asset-based financings, private equity acquisition financings, cross-border transactions and refinancings. Cris also supports other practice groups, including the Mergers & Acquisitions/Private Equity group, the Technology Companies Group and the Energy and Infrastructure group, on financing matters for clients.

Cris is an active member of Orrick LA's recruiting committee. She also regularly engages in various types of pro bono matters, including immigration matters and wills and trusts matters.

Gaelyn has represented a wide range of financial institutions including fund sponsors, issuers, underwriters, placement agents, investment advisers and investors in connection with a wide range of financing transactions including collateralized loan, bond and debt obligations; synthetic collateralized debt obligations; trade receivables; various derivative instruments and structured finance products; and private equity funds and hedge funds.

Geoffrey Shaw Senior Associate

Los Angeles

Geoff's experience litigating and advising clients covers a range of substantive areas. He especially focuses on complex issues of constitutional law and civil procedure.  He is passionate about partnering with public defenders and using his appellate experience to help death sentenced prisoners. 

Geoff received his law degree from Yale Law School. Before joining Orrick, he clerked for Judge Stephen Reinhardt on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy on the U.S. Supreme Court. Geoff previously graduated from Yale College and earned a doctoral degree from Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. 

Larry Sobel Partner

Los Angeles; Houston

As both bond counsel and underwriter’s counsel, he has been responsible for structuring and analyzing the tax aspects of many tax-exempt financings throughout the country.

Larry has extensive experience in handling IRS audits of bond transactions. He has represented issuers in dozens of audits all of which have ended favorably either with the IRS issuing a “no change” letter or by negotiating a reasonable settlement when needed. Larry also has handled a number of submissions under the IRS’ Voluntary Closing Agreement Program (or VCAP). The two most recent VCAP submissions represented cases of first impression for the IRS; one involving an issue of qualified energy conservation bonds relating to determining the amount of those bonds eligible for the federal subsidy; the other involved the plan to convert a “new money” bond issue into an advance refunding (which did not meet all of the requirements for a tax-exempt advance refunding). Both cases ultimately were resolved on the original terms proposed to the IRS.

Larry has also been instrumental in developing new financing techniques and structures. He first devised the tax structure and analysis for, and has served as tax counsel on, Orrick’s tax exempt tobacco revenue securitizations. He has developed the tax structure on numerous tax-exempt prepayments for natural gas for municipal utilities both within and outside of California.
