Daniel P. Colonna Project Attorney

Daniel Colonna is a member of the Orrick Analytics group. The group specializes in using technology and project management discipline to assist firm attorneys with litigation and transactional tasks, particularly tasks that involve large volumes of data and documents.

Mr. Colonna works with litigation attorneys and third party vendors to manage the review and production of documents relevant to investigations and litigation. This work includes using early case assessment technology to analyze, categorize and cull data. He also manages teams of specialists performing document review, redaction, analysis, production and drafting privilege logs. Daniel assists the litigation team to prepare for trial, including drafting deposition summaries, factual memoranda and exhibit charts. He also works with practice office attorneys on transactional tasks, including contract review and due diligence.

Daniel has dedicated significant time to pro bono matters, including assisting trial counsel representing abused and neglected children.

Angela stands at the intersection of IP law and business. She blends her legal and financial background to frame compelling legal arguments in allegations of corporate IP theft and deceptive trade practices.

Angela’s multi-dimensional approach originates from her years as a broker and investment banker. During that time, she identified the ways in which business events affect consumer confidence and corporate earnings. Now as an IP litigator, she analyzes those variables in copyright, trademark, trade secret, false advertising, and consumer class actions.

She has handled high-profile disputes including:

  • Desktop Metal, Inc. in a trade secret trial against Markforged related to 3D printing technology in federal court in Massachusetts;
  • Christie’s, Inc. in securing the dismissal of a putative nationwide class action in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, which declared the California Resale Royalties Act unconstitutional and preempted by the Copyright Act;
  • An international recording artist in obtaining a judgment in her favor on all counts and a dismissal with prejudice of all cross-claims in a dispute over the ownership of the rights to her music;
  • The National Football League in obtaining a dismissal with prejudice of a complaint alleging fraudulent use of the plaintiff’s identity;
  • Red Bull as a defendant in multiple putative class actions across the country challenging the nature and content of advertising statements regarding the benefits of Red Bull energy drinks;
  • Estée Lauder in obtaining dismissals of national and state consumer class actions relating to the marketing and packaging statements on cosmetic products; and
  • Hampton Creek in obtaining a dismissal of a nationwide consumer class action related to the marketing and packaging statements on Just Mayo products.

In addition to helping her corporate clients, Angela also devotes her time to various pro bono matters. She offers advice to the ACLU of Northern California, has drafted and argued an appeal in the Appellate Division (2d Dep’t) in a child abuse matter; and has taken and defended depositions for the City through the New York City Law Department’s Public Service Program.

Marie-Laure Combet is a partner in Orrick's Paris Antitrust & Competition Group.

Marie-Laure has been lucky to gain top-notch experience working for years alongside a former French Minister for European Affairs and former top civil servants from either French or European administrations, particularly renowned for their outstanding practice of general EU law or EU and French competition laws.

She now puts this experience at the service of Orrick's clients. The fact that she has always navigated between two legal orders (EU and French), and not only in the field of antitrust, allows her to think outside the box when it comes to finding original solutions.

Marie-Laure regularly advises on competition matters and related types of work, including compliance, advisory/transactional, and contentious matters. Over the years she has developed a significant experience in relation to State aid matters, i.e., handling very high-profile cases notably in the banking sector, the air transportation and energy sectors, as well as general EU law and regulatory matters. Additionally, Marie-Laure has deployed several compliance programs with clients and assisted them in the implementation of their behavioural commitments made to the French Competition Authority. She also assists foreign investors in relation to their reportable direct investments in strategic sectors in France or at EU level.

Prior to joining Orrick, Marie-Laure was Counsel at Clifford Chance Europe LLP in Paris. She previously worked as a lawyer with JeantetAssociés and Debevoise & Plimpton.

Erin M. Connell, a San Francisco employment partner and Co-Chair of Orrick's EEO & OFCCP Compliance Group and Pay Equity Task Force, represents employers in high stakes employment litigation and is an expert in equal employment opportunity law, pay equity, and affirmative action (OFCCP) compliance.

Erin’s practice covers all aspects of employment law, as well as complex business litigation outside the employment context. Erin has successfully defended numerous class actions, EEOC systemic discrimination investigations, and complex individual cases involving claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage-and-hour claims. Erin has particular expertise in the area of pay equity, compensation analyses, and diversity initiatives; and regularly advises clients with respect to OFCCP and other EEO audits.

Erin also is an accomplished trial lawyer. She has tried several cases before juries and in arbitration, and has successfully has obtained numerous defense summary judgment rulings and other favorable resolutions in state and federal court.

Peter Connors Partner Tax, Corporate Tax

Peter Connors, a tax partner in the New York office, focuses his practice on cross-border transactions. He also has extensive experience in related areas of tax law, including financial transactions, corporate reorganizations, private equity investments and controversy matters.

Portfolio 543 ("The Mark to Market Rules" of Section 475-2d) and the author of T.M. Portfolio 909-3d ("The Branch-Related Taxes" of Section 884). From 2008 to 2010, he was the Vice Chair, Committee Operations, of the American Bar Association Tax Section. In 2010, Peter also founded the NYC Calendar Program for the U.S. Tax Court.

Daniele Consolo is an Italian qualified lawyer and an associate in Orrick's Milan office. He is a member of the Banking & Finance Group. His practice focuses on regulatory banking and finance, financial services and asset management.

Since 2006 he has provided legal advices and assistance to investment banks and financial intermediaries in relation to bank and investment services and collective investment funds. He has advised and supported clients on the management of their regulatory and compliance framework, including key operational aspects related to legal process.

Before joining Orrick, Daniele gained significant expertise in banking and financial services and compliance matters. He worked in Citibank Plc, Milan office, in the Legal and Compliance division for two years. He then moved to Atrigna & Partners law firm in Milan and, during his collaboration, was seconded at the Milan branches of Morgan Stanley Bank International (in 2008) and The Royal Bank of Scotland (in 2010) to support the General Counsel.

Former Deputy Attorney General of Wisconsin Andrew Cook has vast experience in the areas of government investigations, administrative law, appellate litigation and public policy. Andy splits his time between Orrick’s Washington, D.C. and Seattle offices.

In 2014, Andy was appointed Deputy Attorney General of Wisconsin, the principal legal advisor to Wisconsin Attorney General Brad D. Schimel. As Deputy Attorney General, Andy oversaw the day-to-day operations of the 700 employees at the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ); directed litigation strategy; negotiated, reviewed, and approved settlements; drafted and reviewed attorney general opinions; managed the agency’s budget; oversaw civil and criminal investigations handled by DOJ; and managed DOJ’s legislative agenda.

Andy has advised Fortune 500 companies involving state Attorney General and state regulatory matters, including antitrust investigations, consumer protection cases, and cybersecurity and privacy investigations. Andy also has legislative experience drafting and enacting complex civil liability reforms before the Wisconsin Legislature, including: changes to Wisconsin’s product liability laws; amendments to the Wisconsin Rules of Civil Procedure; adopting Daubert standards for cases tried in Wisconsin involving expert opinion and evidence; eliminating the controversial “risk contribution” theory for lead paint cases created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the 2005 Thomas v. Mallett decision; placing caps on punitive damages; and providing transparency in lawsuits involving asbestos related claims.

Prior to joining Orrick, Andy was an in-house legal counsel for the largest Washington state business association and an appellate attorney for a firm where he practiced land use, environmental, and administrative law.
