Naomi Scotten specializes in high-stakes appeals and dispositive motions.


Naomi represents clients in appellate and trial-level litigation in federal and state courts across the country.  Her work covers a wide range of subject areas, including product liability, labor and employment law, telecommunications law, constitutional law, criminal law, and immigration law. 

She has co-authored briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court, federal courts of appeals, and federal and state trial courts.  She recently argued an appeal before the First Judicial Department of the New York State Appellate Division.  Her work includes a successful petition for rehearing en banc in the Ninth Circuit, defending a local firearms ordinance against a Second Amendment challenge. 

Naomi also has extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on dispositive motions, preserving appellate issues, and developing creative legal strategies.

Prior to joining Orrick, Naomi served as a law clerk for Judge Susan L. Carney of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  

Naomi graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where she served as the Executive Director of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.

Nexus Sea is a litigator and trial lawyer who has played key roles in high-profile matters on behalf of Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, and pharmaceutical companies in complex commercial litigation, financial services, and product liability matters in state and federal courts. One emerging area of law that Nexus focuses his practice on is the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and product liability law.

A member of Orrick’s Complex Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice, Nexus has extensive financial services litigation and white collar experience, including the representation of individual and corporate clients. This includes conducting internal investigations on behalf of financial institutions, participating in the successful prosecution of a FINRA action on behalf of an international bank, and the representation of numerous individual foreign claimants in the largest civil forfeiture action brought under the United States Department of Justice’s Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative. In addition, Nexus played a prominent role as part of the court-appointed counsel team to the Securities Investor Protection Act Trustee for the global liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, one of the largest financial frauds in history.

Nexus has also played key roles in the successful representation of a multinational Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company against failure-to-warn and product defect claims, a Fortune 500 bank and premises owner in more than 340 toxic tort personal injury suits arising from the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and successfully advocated for cable and elevator manufacturers in response to asbestos-related product liability matters.

Recognizing the importance of community, Nexus is a founding member of “1844” – an association of nearly 60 African American male attorneys – created as a vehicle to promote collaboration, business development, and mentorship among BigLaw attorneys of color. Nexus is also a member of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association and mentors college and law students who are interested in private practice. Nexus served as President of the Nigerian Lawyers Association from 2014-2016, where he promoted building strong, diverse communities at home and abroad.

Francesco Seassaro Special Counsel M&A and Private Equity, Equity Capital Markets


Francesco Seassaro, Special Counsel in Orrick's Milan office, is a member of the European Corporate Group. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and acquisition finance.

In these areas, he has been involved both in domestic and cross-border transactions, advising corporate clients, private equity funds and banks. In the context of private equity transactions, he has acted as legal counsel of the issuers in the listing of their shares in Italian regulated markets. He has developed an expertise in the aviation area, with specific regard to the purchase, sale and lease of aircraft and the financing of the acquisition of aircraft.

Before joining Orrick, Francesco was employed from 1980 to 1981 as in-house counsel by Italtel S.p.A., an Italian telecommunication company. From 1982 to 1988 he worked as an associate at Studio Legale De Berti & Jacchia, an Italian law firm based in Milan. From 1989 to 1997 he was at first an associate and then a partner at the London office of Carnelutti, an Italian law firm. From 1998 to 2008 he was a partner at Vita Samory, Fabbrini e Associati, an Italian law firm, working at the London office of the firm until 1999 and then at the main office in Milan since 2000.

He has been a lecturer at conferences and has written articles in English legal publications on corporate and banking matters.

She represents companies and individuals in a variety of litigation matters, including white collar criminal defense, intellectual property matters, and general litigation. Prior to joining the White Collar and Securities Litigation Group, Lauren was a member of Orrick's Intellectual Property Group. She currently maintains a substantial trademark prosecution portfolio, counseling clients with the acquisition and protection of their intellectual property rights.

Matthew Sebastian is a Senior Analytics Team Lead in the Discovery Analytics and Review Services group at Orrick. Matthew works with litigation attorneys and third party vendors to manage the review and production of documents relevant to investigations and litigation.

The Discovery Analytics and Review Services group specializes in using technology and project management discipline to assist firm attorneys with litigation and transactional tasks, particularly tasks that involve large volumes of data and documents.

This work includes using early case assessment technology to analyze, categorize and cull data. Matthew also manages teams of specialists performing document review, redaction, analysis, production and drafting privilege logs. He assists the litigation team to prepare for trial, including drafting deposition summaries, factual memoranda and exhibit charts. Matthew also works with practice office attorneys on transactional tasks, including contract review and due diligence.

Erica Sechrist, Senior Strategist in the Washington, D.C., office, uses her previous experience working with national party committees and in the private sector to bring a unique perspective and understanding when tackling issues our clients face at both the national and state level.

Erica has extensive experience providing advice and developing strategic programs for leadership committees and associations.

Before joining Orrick, Erica worked for Advance America as Director of Government Affairs. In this role, she negotiated legislation with elected officials and regulators and developed strategic relationships with community leaders while running point for Advance America with National Political Committees. Prior to Advance America, Erica served as Finance Director of the Republican State Leadership Committee, Executive Director of the Republican Attorneys General Association, and Chairman’s Foundation Representative of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. In her last year at the Republican State Leadership Committee, the committee raised over $30 million and made historic gains in the 2010 elections, flipping 20 state chambers to Republican control as well as netting six Attorneys General, seven Secretaries of State and three independently elected Lieutenant Governors.

Erin Sedloff helps start-ups and high-growth technology companies successfully raise capital and build their business from formation through exit.

Erin represents early- and late-stage companies throughout all stages of growth and development, including formation, cross-border restructuring, venture financings, mergers and acquisitions, and other corporate and securities law matters. She has experience advising founders on structuring their companies and frequently counsels executive teams on maintaining and managing a successful board of directors.

Mark Seneca, a Corporate partner in the Silicon Valley office, is a member of Orrick’s M&A and Private Equity Group as well as its Technology Companies Group. Mark has dedicated his legal career to the M&A specialty, with experience in all aspects of mergers and acquisitions transactions involving both public and private companies in domestic and cross-border deals.

Mark has a particular focus on the technology sector, having led hundreds of buy-side and sell-side transactions involving prominent high-tech serial acquirers, unicorns and venture back companies. His sell-side work involves multiple acquisitions by Google, Facebook,, VMware, Microsoft, Intel, IBM, Adobe, Yahoo! and Twitter. These deals include his high profile work for Cruise Automation in its acquisition by General Motors, Nest Labs in its US$3.2 billion acquisition by Google, and Instagram in its US$1.0 billion acquisition by Facebook, which was ranked one of the top 10 largest valued private tech M&A deals in the U.S. in 2012. In an interview with Bloomberg Law for a “Rainmakers” episode, Mark provided a substantive analysis of the Instagram deal, including its industry precedent and influence (click here).

On the buy-side, Mark has served as lead M&A counsel for top public company acquirers (Yelp, Google, Yahoo! and Intellisync) as well as private company serial acquirers (Stripe, Pinterest and Social Finance).
