Paul Meyer focuses on high-stakes appeals as a member of the Supreme Court and Appellate practice at Orrick.

Paul has worked extensively on issues of criminal justice and capital punishment, including litigation in the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts of appeals to prevent the further restriction of federal habeas review of convictions and sentences, and ongoing litigation challenging the constitutionality of California’s administration of the death penalty. Paul was part of the Orrick team that received the 2018 Exceptional Service Award from the American Bar Association Death Penalty Project. Before joining Orrick, Paul served as a law clerk to the Honorable Mary H. Murguia of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and to the Honorable Roger L. Gregory of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Paul was a newspaper journalist in his prior career. He is the recipient of the Livingston Award for Young Journalists for national reporting, the Associated Press Managing Editors' International Perspective Award, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ Award for feature writing, among other national honors.
