July.15.2022

  • David McGill, a versatile litigator with deep experience advising clients in fintech and crypto and financial services, joins the firm’s Washington, DC office from Kobre & Kim.
  • Dave brings a strong regulatory enforcement background representing clients in actions before the DOJ, SEC, CFTC and other agencies.
  • He is the firm’s 6th litigation and regulatory partner hire this year, including most recently former CFPB enforcer Melissa Baal Guidorizzi, also in DC, and the trial duo of Bill Oxley in SoCal and Meghan Kelly in NY.

“As we look around the corner, we’re focused on fortifying our litigation and regulatory bench for all three sectors on which we focus: Tech, Finance and Energy,” said Jessica Perry, co-head of Orrick’s global litigation practice. “Dave adds a terrific practice for leading banks and funds and builds out our fintech and crypto expertise at a time when our clients need it.”

Dave represents hedge funds, PE funds, fintech and crypto companies, a variety of trading firms and individuals in complex disputes, often with regulatory enforcement risk. His experience includes financial products and services litigation, class and derivative actions, joint venture and partnership disputes, IP and technology litigation and investigations, including whistleblower claims, and enforcement actions.

“Enforcement momentum is already underway in crypto and fintech – and a wave of private claims will follow,” Dave said. “Orrick is a tremendous platform from which to help clients navigate this storm: a top tier-trial shop with a strong record for financial institutions and funds, as well as a roster of leading fintech clients coming out of a market leading tech practice.”

Orrick’s trial teams have earned mentions in American Lawyer’s Litigator of the week column six times in the first six months of 2022.
