Douglas Lahnborg Discusses Attempted Ryanair Purchase of Aer Lingus

Bloomberg | June.20.2012

This article, about the barriers Ryanair faces in its attempt to acquire Irish competitor Aer Lingus, contains commentary from antitrust & competition partner Douglas Lahnborg.

Lahnborg commented that the move by Ryanair would be aggressive, and one would think the European Commission would be highly skeptical towards any argument that the merger could be justified based on the financial crisis.

In 2007, Ryanair also attempted to purchase Aer Lingus, but was blocked by European Union regulators who argued that a takeover would allow the airline to control 80 percent of the Dublin market.
