Shane D. Anderson Senior Associate

Shane has experience working on patent disputes in Federal Court and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board for globally-recognized companies in the domains of software, communications, consumer electronics, and other high-tech fields.  He understands what it takes to be successful in complex patent litigation and wields his unique experience and education to gain the best result possible for his clients.  Prior to joining Orrick's Intellectual Property Group Shane practiced in Silicon Valley as an associate at a global law firm and focused on patent litigation.

Prior to law school, Shane was an electrical engineer and worked both in Japan and Canada, developing test systems, embedded hardware, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software.  Shane also worked as an educator in rural Japan, an experience that informs his ability to explain complex topics both clearly and persuasively.

Shane also has a passion for community service and pro bono representation.  Among his efforts, he assisted with the representation of plaintiffs in a Voting Rights Act, Section 2, litigation, and advised a small business owner and drafted agreements and contracts.

Sarah Davis Counsel

Sarah has particular expertise defending challenges to overdraft fees, including challenges to authorize positive, settle negative (“APSN”) transactions, and has represented Capital One, U.S. Bank, First Hawaiian Bank, and Union Bank in putative class actions challenging APSN fees. Separately, Sarah has defended two large national banks in enforcement actions related to overdraft fees and obtained a non-public resolution of voluntary remediation.

Sarah also has a robust practice defending both small and large companies against allegations of food mislabeling. She has successfully defended or reached favorable settlement terms regarding challenges to “all natural,” “no sugar added,” and “non-GMO” claims.

She has experience handling disputes governed by French, Swiss, Iranian, and US (Maryland, New York, Washington, Illinois) law in most of the major arbitral forums, including the ICC, HKIAC, ICSID, and the Swiss Arbitration Centre.

With a strong background in Public International Law, Sara brings a nuanced understanding of the international legal frameworks that impact cross-border disputes to her cases. She also has a keen interest in defense technology and aviation, combining industry-specific knowledge with a solutions-oriented mindset to tackle the unique legal challenges these fields present.

Before joining Orrick, Sara gained valuable experience working in the Emerging Companies department of another major international law firm in New York City. She also represented the City of New York in family court, prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases for two years. In addition to her legal practice, Sara serves as a coach for the International Criminal Court moot court and is a Steering Committee member of the young practitioners’ group of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution (CPR).

Prior to joining Orrick, Sarah was an appellate attorney with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs where she represented the VA before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

A veteran herself, Sarah served over 13 years on active duty as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army, including two deployments to Iraq. During her military career, Sarah prosecuted criminal cases, represented soldiers in criminal appeals, advised senior commanders on complex investigations and operational law, and taught as an associate professor at the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Sarah advises on legal, legislative, and regulatory matters for a coalition of major online gaming operators. She helps clients structure products and business operations to comply with evolving gaming laws and regulations, and conducts diligence on gaming issues in relation to mergers and acquisitions.

Before joining Orrick, Sarah led the team responsible for providing legal analysis of gaming regulatory matters and products in development at one of the largest online gaming operators in the country. She worked across business units to respond to regulatory inquiries and operational incidents.

Prior to that role Sarah worked on the government affairs team of the operator, advocating for reasonable legal frameworks to govern sports betting, fantasy sports and igaming at a time of unprecedented industry change and growth. She drafted proposed legislation and regulations, testified to legislators, and met with regulators and policymakers as they considered and implemented these frameworks.

Sarah also has previous private practice experience advising online gaming and e-commerce clients in regulatory, transactional and litigation matters.
