New York

José Mario Valdés is a Senior Associate in the Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group and in the International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution Group.

José Mario represents clients in complex, high-stakes commercial litigations and arbitrations most notably in the renewable energy and financial services sectors.

His litigation practice spans all stages of litigation in both state and federal courts, from pleadings and motion practice to fact discovery, expert analysis, and obtaining favorable settlements in lieu of trial. He has successfully defended clients against claims that commonly arise in commercial litigation, obtaining early dismissals against claims for breach of contract, fraud, successor liability, and veil-piercing.

His arbitration practice focuses on cross-border arbitrations before the ICC involving the construction of renewable energy projects in Latin America, where he leverages his Spanish speaking skills and his knowledge of New York construction law to obtain favorable results for our clients.

His renewable energy experience involves EPC Agreements and PPAs for solar, wind, and backup power plant projects.

In addition to his litigation and arbitration experience, he advises on drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements and assessing business risks.

José Mario received his JD from Columbia Law School and a bachelor’s degree in Government from Harvard College.
