Litigation and Representation
Orrick is regularly called upon to submit amicus curiae briefs
on important employment law issues and to provide comments
on proposed legislation. Examples include the following cases:
- The Employer’s Group. Orrick employment
lawyers represented The Employer’s Group in successfully
arguing before the California Supreme Court in several landmark
cases, including Cotran v. Rollins Hudig Hall and
Reno v. Baird.
- Securities Industry Association. This
client regularly looks to Orrick for representation in filing
briefs on issues of importance to the SIA and its members.
Orrick lawyers filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme
Court in Circuit City v. Adams arguing that arbitration
agreements are enforceable in the employment context under
the Federal Arbitration Act. The Court agreed with Orrick’s
position.
