Representation of Regulatory Receivers

Our lawyers have handled the following representation of governmental interests or the trustees or receivers appointed by courts on the motion of governmental agencies:

• Insurance Company Conservatorships. Orrick has represented the California Insurance Commissioner and the Department of Insurance in several of the largest insurance company rehabilitation proceedings in recent years, including those of Superior National, First Capital Life Insurance Co., and Golden Eagle Insurance Co.
• Bank of Credit & Commerce International (BCCI). We served as general counsel for the trustee for the U.S. assets of BCCI, the largest bank fraud in world history, appointed by U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in the largest criminal forfeiture in U.S. history.
• Bank and Trust Company Liquidations. We are counsel for the California Commissioner of Financial Institutions as liquidator of licensees such as First Independent Trust Company, a leading student loan originator, and the California offices of BCCI.
• Qualified Pensions, Inc. We represented the receiver appointed by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, on motion of the SEC, in this massive pension embezzlement.
