Asian Counsel

M&A Deal of the Year

Orrick's China team advised Corporación IMPSA S.A. and Industrias Metalúrgicas Pescarmona S.A. in the restructuring, acquisition and divestiture of the Caliraya-Botocan-Kalayaan Power Complex in Laguna, Philippines. This project was selected by Asian Counsel as an "M&A Deal of the Year" in 2006 and was described in the International Financial Law Review as "a remarkable case study in divestiture strategy."

Real Estate and Construction Deal of the Year

Orrick's China team advised Credit Suisse on the offshore security for its guaranteed $100 million financing of the Shanghai Square Project, a 38-story 80,000 square meter office and retail project in Shanghai. This project received the "Real Estate and Construction Deal of the Year" award in 2006 from Asian Legal Business, which recognized the advanced level of legal services required to complete financings that were structured as dual-currency onshore and offshore loans involving a complex series of offshore security arrangements that crossed four jurisdictions.

The Bond Buyer

Top Counsel: All of 2006

Orrick ranked first as bond counsel, first as disclosure counsel, and second as underwriter's counsel in the United States in the area of municipal bonds, based on the value of the bonds. Orrick has ranked first as bond counsel for nine out of the past 10 years.

Charles Houston Bar Association

Orrick was the recipient of the 2005 Corporate Award by the Charles Houston Bar Association, an affiliate member of the National Bar Association.

The Deal

M&A Deals of the Year

Orrick represented Chevron Corporation in its $17 billion dollar acquisition of Unocal Corporation. This transaction was recognized by The Deal as the "2005 M&A Deals of the Year." Orrick represented Cisco Systems in its $7 billion acquisition of Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. This transaction was profiled in The Deal's "2005 M&A Deals of the Year."

Scoreboard Bankruptcy League Tables/Top Bankruptcy Law Firms, 2005

Orrick, with 57 active cases, is ranked among the top 50 bankruptcy law firms. San Francisco restructuring partner Frederick Holden Jr., with 44 active assignments, is ranked 20th in the magazine's list of the top 50 bankruptcy lawyers.

Dealogic Global Project Finance Review

Orrick ranked eighth worldwide on PFI/PPP project finance deals in terms of aggregate dollar value as reported in Dealogic Global Project Finance Review for 2006.

Euromoney

Logistics Deal of the Year

Orrick's China team structured and completed the RMB 1.7 billion (US$200 million) dual-currency, six-tranche project financing for Royal Vopak's liquefied chemical and oil products storage and logistics facility in Shanghai. This project received the 2005 "Logistics Deal of the Year" award from Euromoney and is the central feature of the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park, which is planned to be one of the largest and most integrated chemical and petrochemical production and logistics bases in Asia.

Harvard Law School

Orrick was ranked first among New York firms and 20th among the top 100 U.S. firms in Harvard Law School's survey "Presumed Equal, What America's Top Women Lawyers Really Think About Their Firms."

Human Rights Campaign

Orrick received a 100% rating in the 2006 Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index Annual Survey, which measures how equitably companies are treating their LGBT employees, consumers and investors.

Minority Law Journal

Orrick was one of six law firms nationally that saw marked gains in its proportion of minority lawyers from 2005 to 2006, according to the Minority Law Journal.

Orrick was ranked 12th nationally for diversity among the largest 255 law firms, with 19 percent of the firm's lawyers as minorities in the Minority Law Journal's 2007 annual Diversity Scorecard.

Project Finance Magazine

Orrick represented Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A. (BBVA), Banco Santander Central Hispano, S.A., BNP Paribas, Caja Madrid, DEPFA Bank plc, Dexia Crédit Local New York Branch, and RBS Securities Corporation, as mandated lead arrangers and swap providers, for the approximately $4.9 billion financing of the acquisition of a 75-year concession for the Indiana Toll Road, representing the largest privatization to date of a U.S. toll road. This transaction was recognized as "North American Transport Deal of the Year" for 2006 by Project Finance.

Minority Corporate Counsel Association's Thomas L. Sager Award

Orrick was recipient of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association's 2006 Thomas L. Sager Award, Western Region. The award recognizes law firms that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to improve the hiring, retention, and promotion of diverse attorneys.
