Noel Nellis, a partner in the San Francisco office, is responsible for the Global Real Estate Group. He focuses his practice on negotiating and documenting transactions in the areas of financing (including construction and long-term lending, ground leasing and sale-leaseback transactions), leasing, development, construction and operation of real property. He has been responsible for the legal aspects of numerous large-scale land development projects such as high-rise office buildings, shopping centers, hotel and resort properties and industrial buildings. He has also been extensively involved in the workout of troubled real estate transactions. His professional knowledge includes extensive representation of domestic institutional and pension fund investors and foreign investors in the acquisition and disposition of real estate. In addition, Mr. Nellis has been actively involved in the formation and initial public offerings of real estate investment trusts (REITs) and advises a number of public and private REITs.
Mr. Nellis has written numerous articles on a variety of real estate law topics, with an emphasis in recent years on realty joint ventures, leasing transactions, the legal aspects of investments in real estate by pension funds and foreign investors, and REITs. Mr. Nellis has also been a frequent lecturer and panelist on professional and real estate industry programs.
Mr. Nellis is an adjunct professor at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
