Karen Thompson, a managing associate in the New York office, is a member of the Litigation Practice Group. Ms. Thompson's practice has an international arbitration and white collar crime focus.
Ms. Thompson's representations include:
- Telenor Mobile Communications AS. Ms. Thompson is a member of the Orrick team that serves as international counsel for Telenor Mobile. Most recently, she helped secure a complete arbitral win for Telenor Mobile against Storm LLC, as well as a preliminary injunction in the Southern District of New York against further litigations by Storm and its affiliates in Ukraine.
- Various Internal Investigations. Ms. Thompson has provided counsel and worked internationally and locally on various internal investigations. Former clients have included one of the world's largest financial institutions and a top automotive original equipment manufacturer.
- Pro Bono. In January 2008, after an appeal to the Bureau of Immigration Appeals, Ms. Thompson secured asylum for a 26-year old Senegalese man who sailed from Dakar, Senegal to the coast of Massachusetts on a 60-foot catamaran to escape persecution by members of a rebel faction. In 2005, Ms. Thompson litigated a class action suit in the Eastern District of Louisiana involving trademark infringement, dilution and false advertising claims (as well as various intentional torts) against an anti-choice activist who co-opted the name of a well-known local reproductive health services provider in order to falsely advertise to women seeking abortions that he provided abortion referral services.
Ms. Thompson has also worked as a mentor with the Legal Outreach program and has served as a coach for the MENTOR Moot Court competition sponsored by Fordham University Law School.
