Kate Orr, a senior associate in the Washington, D.C., office, is a member of the Restructuring Group. Her practice focuses on all stages of commercial and bankruptcy litigation in trial and appellate courts throughout the United States.
Ms. Orr represents a variety of clients, including major companies in the energy industry. In recent years, she served as litigation counsel for Potomac Electric Power Company in cutting-edge litigation concerning the ability of a debtor power company to reject electric power contracts. Ms. Orr also successfully represented a subsidiary of Koch Industries against Robinson-Patman Act, Lanham Act and pricing discrimination claims.
In addition, Ms. Orr has securities litigation experience. Of note, Ms. Orr participated in two internal investigations concerning accounting fraud and trading practices, and represented four former board members in a derivative suit filed in state court in Maryland, which suit was ultimately dismissed.
Ms. Orr is also active in numerous pro bono matters. Her work has included successfully representing the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland in an eminent domain/freedom of information case and in a First Amendment challenge of a regulation limiting the display of campaign signs. In recognition of her efforts, Ms. Orr was awarded the first annual Orrick Pro Bono Award in 2006.
