Chris Chavez, a San Francisco real estate lawyer, has a general real estate and real estate finance practice, including real estate secured lending, and the acquisition, disposition, development and leasing of commercial property.  Ms. Chavez was resident in the firm's Tokyo office from 1999-2002.

The following are some of Ms. Chavez’s representative transactions:

  • Representation of a real estate investment management firm in its investment in and financing of the majority interest in a $2.5 billion joint venture formed to develop or redevelop a portfolio of 93 assets on 42 development sites located throughout the greater Washington, D.C. metro area, as office, retail, hotel and multifamily residential.
  • Representation of a real estate investment management firm in its acquisition of a majority interest in a $2.6 billion strategic joint venture that owns and develops residential homesite assets throughout the U.S.
  • Borrower's counsel for a $775 million loan secured by a 4,500-unit, 10-square-block apartment property in California.
  • Buyer's/borrower's counsel in the acquisition and financing of a portfolio valued at more than $1 billion, consisting of 119 office and R&D properties in Silicon Valley.
  • Seller's counsel in the sale of a portfolio of 31 industrial properties in the western United States, totaling 8 million square feet, for $517 million.
  • Representation of the originators and arrangers in three commercial mortgage-backed securitizations in the aggregate amount of over ¥125 billion involving assets in Japan.
  • Representation of numerous Japanese investment vehicles formed by U.S. and European investors in connection with general corporate matters and acquisition, financing, management and disposition of nonperforming loan portfolios with an aggregate acquisition price in excess of ¥80 billion.
