Louise joined Coudert Brothers as a trainee in September 2004. She did seats in finance and property prior to moving across to Orrick in June 2005 where she completed her training contract with her final two seats being litigation and property. |
Having studied Land Economy at Cambridge I knew I wanted to work in property but more on the legal side. My first seat at Coudert confirmed this. In property you have your own files to run (although heavily supervised) so I felt I was contributing to the department from day one and felt part of the team.
My seat in finance confirmed to me that I did not want to be a finance lawyer, I prefer transactions where there is a physical entity at the end – be it an exciting new retailer in a shopping centre, a house in Wiltshire or an affordable housing development in Notting Hill.
My final seat in Property gave gentle introduction to the work I have since been doing as a newly qualified. I have been able to build up relationships with the clients and indeed encouraged to do so. A benefit of property is that you get a lot of client contact including the odd client drinks!
Orrick has a great working environment. The ethos is very much of getting the work done but with all the assistance you require. No one is ever too busy to explain and everyone firmwide is very friendly. |
