Sonia Valdez is a member of Orrick’s intellectual property group. Her work focuses on high-stakes complex litigation. Ms. Valdez has experience with all phases of trial, including pretrial investigation, computer forensics, discovery, dispositive motions, jury trial strategy and settlement negotiation. A representative sample of her cases includes:
- Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corp. and Protiva Biotherapeutics, Inc. v. Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Alcana Technologies, Inc. Sonia was a member of the trial team that represented Tekmira and Protiva in a case before the Business Litigation Section of Massachusetts state court. Tekmira and Protiva alleged misappropriation of trade secrets relating to lipid-based siRNA delivery technology, along with claims of breach of contract and unfair competition.
- Oracle Corp. et al. v. DrugLogic, Inc. Sonia was a member of the trial team representing Oracle in a case in the Northern District of California. This case involved several software patents related to adverse events in the pharmaceutical industry. Claims include patent infringement, breach of contract, and fraud.
